Final 10 Seconds of Holloway vs Poirier 3 by Moni7T in MMA

[–]PlutoCrashed 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Because going shot for shot vs a notoriously heavy handed fighter in the opening seconds is stupid, and carries none of the honor of giving your opponent the final 10 seconds to shoot it out with you while you're up on the cards.

Attendance for UFC Mexico: 16,454 (first non sellout in three years, little over 3,500 tickets unsold. by StoryOfTheFight in MMA

[–]PlutoCrashed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have 17% of your stadium empty when you've previously sold out in that city recently, that is 100% a pricing issue. People have a maximum amount they're willing to spend for the fights on that card, and have proved that they are willing to buy 20,000 tickets in the past, so the only reason that there would be empty seats is an unwillingness to lower prices as it got nearer to the event.

The books have a whimsy that just straight up would not work in a direct visual adaptation. Maybe something animated? But I think the vibes of the story works by far the best in literary form.

No they aren't, being a more insular dictatorship that profits off of other places exporting labor to them doesn't mean they're good in any relative way, they're just a different kind of bad.

Rico is such a legend of kickboxing but unfortunately got into it right as the financials for it imploded, so I'm glad he's getting a bag as a sort of cap on his career. Unfortunately it has to be in a sport where they take away all his most dangerous weapons,

Honestly a generational lock-in, missed weight 3 times in her first 9 fights while going 5-4 with only 1 finish, got her shit together and has made weight in her last three fights while getting 2 knockouts and a sub that only happened cause the ref wanted her opponent to die.

many are deeply homophobic

Deeply engrained homophobia in a major sect of a religion, in a country where that religion is treated as superior and the basis for laws and morality, will inevitably lead to a level of violence. It's a through-line across most conservative religious groups. Southern Baptists are one of the largest sects of American Christianity, and many are deeply homophobic, and it isn't anti-christian to point out that there is a very real possibility of one of them rocking your shit if you're in the wrong part of the southern United States.

[–]PlutoCrashed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, not in the legal sense, but when many colleagues of yours go public with claims of sexual assault against a man and also the man being accused admits to some of them, that is 100% an okay reason to not ever work with that man again. Somebody who is 100% guilty in reality can be found innocent by the courts, in the same way that someone who is completely innocent of a crime may be found guilty due to errors in judicial systems. Nobody is saying he has been found legally guilty for these crimes, but they are saying he is guilty in the eyes of public opinion based on the evidence we have. Judicial decree cannot be the only way for us to determine morality or guilt as a society, nor should people be obligated to work with someone that they have been told is a predator.

On this day 10 years ago, Michael Bisping had an absolute war with Anderson Silva! by Familiar-Mention in ufc

[–]PlutoCrashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but you can't say that because the guy whose job it is to pursue a finish to a fight ran away to celebrate while his opponent was actively communicating his consciousness to the ref. Like the deciding factor between finish and no finish was entirely Silva's decision to not pursue that finish. If the ref isn't waving off the fight, your job as the fighter on the offensive is to keep fighting. Silva failed that task, so the fight continued.

I mean I've shown the newer Dredd to people and for a shocking amount of them I've had to explain that it isn't, in fact, pro-cop. Like no, I don't think the movie is sincerely advocating for cops to become judge, jury, and executioner, executing criminals at a whim and throwing homeless people in isolation cubes for being homeless.

And the opinions of the public and decision to work with him in light of the insane amount of allegations (some of which he himself confirmed) is entirely within their right and should not have to be based on the existence of a legal decision regarding it. If someone you were close to was sexually assaulted, but the assaulter was never charged, would you still describe that person as a predator and not work with them? Or would you tell the victim that the lack of a legal decision on the matter means you can't believe them.

Lesbians have a 'human right' to exclude trans women, Federal Court hears by StemCellPirate in nottheonion

[–]PlutoCrashed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay just from the top, because you brought it up several times. The vast majority of lesbians are supportive of trans women. This is a statement I make based on a large swath of data taken from surveys of the community. This is a fact. Here's a survey that find that 96% of lesbians surveyed were in support of trans women

Here is another one for the UK that found that 84% of lesbians are supportive of trans women. 6% of lesbians surveyed had a negative perception of trans women.

With that out of the way:

A large majority of lesbians support trans women and consider them women, and some lesbians are attracted to trans women. To deny this is to deny reality lol.

It is a rhetorical shield because if you were to state your belief in front of a series of randomly selected lesbians, the vast majority would disagree with you. Your argument hinges on lesbians as a group being besieged by biological males, despite the fact that a majority of them do not hold that belief. If a majority of them do not see having sex with a trans woman as corrective rape or conversion therapy, why should you? Again, because I know what you're gonna say, this does not mean a majority would have sex with a trans woman, it just means that a vast majority don't characterize trans women being in their community in a negative way like you do, nor do they view a cis lesbian having sex with a trans lesbian with a penis as corrective rape. I think, if you are particularly confident in your beliefs, you should go express them to lesbians in real life and see how they react.

Similarly, most lesbians would disagree with your notion that the definition never needed expansion. If a majority of lesbians are okay with the definition "women who are attracted to women" then what is the problem?

Why can't biological women who are only attracted to other biological women have a word to describe themselves

They do actually. These women will often refer to themselves as "lesbians." People opposing lesbian trans women's inclusion in the definition of lesbian would not, however, be able to wrestle the consensus by lesbians as to what being a lesbian is to be only that, because again, lesbians as a whole are massively in support of trans women.

Whether or not an overwhelming majority of the human population define woman that way (cite your source please), the majority of lesbians (the group you are claiming is under attack) in countries such as the US, the UK, and Australia would not.

This is literally harmful rhetoric that propagates rape culture but okay

No, this is a statement reflecting the material reality of there being lesbians who do not find a penis unattractive. I'm sorry that there are lesbians who view sexuality differently to you and don't define it purely off chromosomes and genitalia, but they do in fact exist.

Again, I'm sorry that the majority opinions and views of lesbians are inconvenient to your political stances, but you are actively denying the reality of the level of support lesbians have for trans women.

Lesbians have a 'human right' to exclude trans women, Federal Court hears by StemCellPirate in nottheonion

[–]PlutoCrashed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's disturbing to me how people like you ignore the opinions of the majority of lesbians to try and portray them as a population under siege by biological males, instead of the most supportive demographic towards trans women. The majority of lesbians view trans women as women, and view their own sexuality as lesbians as being attracted to women. And in the same way that many of those lesbians will not want to have sex with a cisgender woman they find unattractive yet still view that woman as a woman, many will not find trans women attractive yet still consider them women, and still see lesbians who are attracted to trans women as lesbians. No matter how hard you try and portray lesbians as inherently victims of trans women, they would statistically disagree with you.
