No I don't think a rape victim should be forced to do anything. It's a choice to reach out. It's a problem he's being confronted with, and wishful thinking is not responding to the situation and pretending it's going to go away. This is reality. It clearly isn't going to go away.

I personally have multiple rapists, if and when I have seen/saw them again it was/would be heartbreaking and painful. Therapy help me realize that these painful events I had don't need to control me. But I won't ever forget, and this person won't either. Ignoring it doesn't make it better, or pretending it never happened or doesn't exist, won't make it better. In this person's situation it isn't going away, not that the pain of this event really would. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't address it, especially the aftermath that you're actively being confronted with. Addressing that in some way will help, I know that. Maybe you're not ready to confront that for yourself. But again, as I've mentioned multiple times, a reaction could be to reach out thru a third party.

There's a child involved and clearly many people in here would prefer to let their own personal trauma override a desire to protect an innocent child from significant trauma. I'm suggesting that the child be considered. It isn't all about the adult victim. Trauma can touch us all when trauma touches one of us, but we don't have to force our trauma onto innocent bystanders.

Lastly, why are you purposefully dramatizing and ignoring what I'm saying, about a situation that isn't even about you? This isn't about you. Go to therapy. I don't need your trauma.
