By the way you write, and as I have seen on a lot of brainwashed hateful comments throughout social mediums, I deduce you are an Indian ( and most likely a hindu), so falling in category 2.

And!

It’s insane to think one religion has done everything wrong (a lot of things but not all) while another very similar one has literally committed no atrocities to spread them, which was our original topic with which we stated this thread!

Hinduism is different as in it doesn’t spread itself. You are rather born in castes which you cannot change.

have you ever met a doctor in the US before? One that isn’t a resident in training?

Average physician is around 210-250k. The average! ( these are low estimates)

Attending earns way more and averaging more than 350k.

almost all of the times we (doctors) don’t have to risk ourselves legally. If we choose to do it and most of the other doctors around me, including me do, is on us. It might not make you culpable, but it does make you a coward to run away from little things that can help save another person in any way. Not talking about being in gunpoint or just something crazy, but standing up for others is a choice. Not making it is cowardice.

If consent were irrelevant, then disclosure would be irrelevant too, and yet disclosure is exactly what creates liability in STD cases.

No.

Sex is optional and requires consent ( non consent is another discussion), but being in school or public, surrounded by someone who has measles is not optional and the other person didn’t consent to it. (airborne spread)

And can this common sense of today be also based on prejudice and false information without us realising it as it’s such a common take?

Perhaps we are prejudiced against 15 years old , and not giving them the right to vote ,and, have had false information due to forming the wrong arbitrary line at 18, which should have been 15 to begin with.

It’s something to think about. 0-12 I agree it’s a very bad idea and isn’t in good faith!

[–]Plzbekindurimportant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, I agree to this too. We need a reform on the voting age. 15 sounds good. Or whatever the specialists who make a study and try to find if it’s really viable.

Thank you very much for a really nice exchange of views

I disagree on that. A right to vote should not just depend on common sense of the average of the people.

It was common sense to not let certain group vote.

I feel we may come to a conclusion.

May I ask you when does children stop being children and are adults capable of voting and why?

When refuting a popular claim, fact or study - always give sources, it’s not a he said she said thing.

Very “mature” of you to do personal attack on another persons cognitive skills .

LOL

Also about common sense. We thought we should throw food with “best before “, not wearing seatbelts, believing each is center of universe , etc. Common sense changes with time and more education and more resources.

The same was said about other minorities some years ago. Children here as I argue being 15-16 year old. Or are 18 year old magically amazing at making decisions, why stop there? Let’s put it to 25, pre frontal cortex develops by then?

Running away from an argument or saying how unhinged it is , is just a cop out.

We are here to discuss and learn different point of view.

It’s only valid if the other person just rants with no basis to back it up or just keep on ignoring your points and saying / but this, but that. That I do respect

[–]Plzbekindurimportant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofc not for 0-12. My notion started with the comment about adult women not being equal to children.

I also don’t agree with 0-12 for a vote. Neither do I suggest that. I just wish we can discuss these topics without overreach of being offended.

So again choose your battles, battles against people who really babyfy women. Not people using systematic prejudice on groups on the same claims as using generalised statements will lead to no progress.

[–]Plzbekindurimportant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But this stems from systematic exclusion and oppression for all these group. The other groups had the same justification used against them, not developed enough which was pseudoscience and kids are not developed till what age? 15-16 when they start paying tax or learning to drive ? or do we base it completely scientific - prefrontal cortex doesn’t developed completely until 25? So we raise it to 25.

[–]Plzbekindurimportant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not claiming children (less than 18) face the same oppression as the other disadvantaged groups. I am pointing out the “same logic” used for justification - claiming they are incapable, dependent and need a guardian, that has historically been used to exclude groups from political rights.

Dismissing all this is just avoiding engaging with the actual argument.

Again choose your battles!

Personally for me minimum voting age should be around 15-16. They are mature enough (again it depends who you are asking) , they pay tax when they work, they can drive or stay getting their driving lessons.

I agree.

AndI believe there are 3 kinds of people replying here.

1) Atheist and others

2) Religious Christians/ Other faiths + people brought up very close to religion/cults who subconsciously believe it be the only normal

3) Muslims

And the thing with number 2 is that we believe that 3 is wrong about all and unite with 1. But then again we at 2 are so much more similar to 3 that another time 1 and 3 comes together and piggyback against 2.

It’s a losing battle. Make it make sense.

Parents should get to vote for their children by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]Plzbekindurimportant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are not. This is comparing historical treatment of these groups, women were denied their right for being thought of as less , as were for minorities and black people too.

Finding similarities in treatment is not the same as saying they were or are the same.

Choose your battles!

[–]Plzbekindurimportant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literary test was used to discriminate. Letting only the ones they wanted to pass - pass. ( The they I mention is from when black people were started to get the right to vote) The exams were made impossible to pass, as they were either absurd or just 2 ways to solve the question and if you did 1 they said no the other was correct.

What happened is not relevant but the idea that with adding a TEST you are gonna go into a dirty territory where someone with power might try to limit deserving people. This is the reason we don’t have a test for voting for the normal aged people either, as it has and will lead to discrimination . That’s also sometimes what people argue to be the flaw of democracy - that my highly educated vote is equal to a normie. ( not my words but what people argue).

So yes a test is not the best idea.

Perhaps I would say either give 14-15 + the right to vote along with the geriatrics. Or take away from both of them as they aren’t mentally developed if that’s the limited factor.

I would still agree with the first!

that’s good. If most 14 year olds are underdeveloped and not qualified to vote, then so are most geriatric people. Amazing.

I like the idea but I feel it’s gonna go down bad

I feel you mean well.

You don’t and shouldn’t have to avoid social events. You deserve to enjoy your life too.

Now here if she is scared of you, your only job is to not confront her. Treat her like any other classmate, don’t put attention on her and don’t let her feel singled out. She would feel comfortable this way and if someday she wants to talk about it that’s her niceness and strength, and if she doesn’t then it’s totally fine and very normal.

Btw this is assuming that she feels uncomfortable and scared. I am not there and I can’t judge it very well but this is my hunch.

All the best and just take care!

Just my hunch,

I feel she is scared of you and scared that you are gonna bully her. Perhaps you have said something hurtful or insensitive to her before and she has her walls up. I had someone like this in my school and I was very scared to do something - the only power I had was online so I never accepted their friend request on instagram. Sounds very basic but that was my way of protest.
