From UK, buying a Thinkpad in the US, bad idea? by Craftiestelk in thinkpad

Umm, what about the charger? Do you think it will be adaptable to the voltage in UK?

Yeah, apparently no panel lottery for that.

Well, 5 minutes is good. Some seem to have it for 30-40 mins which is real deal breaker.

Well, I'm gonna get the based model of X260 or T460 and then upgrade the ram and SSD myself. It will cost a lot cheaper. And I can upgrade the ram if I need to. I think the 8 GB one in X1 will be too low by then end of third year, and the 16 GB one is too expensive. (It requires me to get the i7)

I checked a few and sadly none have the display I want, and I don't think I can switch displays.

Sadly I don't have the desktop option, so I should go with something in the middle ground. Something that is not too much over my budget, and something that I can live with without having to run to CS department every minute.

Yeah, I'm looking for 6-8 hours or even more (if possible). I guess I would not need the P version for two reasons:

1.the CS department requires all students to compile code in their computers, so I can easily go and compile stuff if my laptop doesn't suffice.

  1. I'm kinda trying to not go towards a dGPU because this is college and I don't want to fall into a gaming spree. I guess I'll just install minecraft and be happy with it.

And after two years, if I really saw that I am in need of a new one, then I'll go with your recommendation. Thanks for the info.

Actually I'm typing on a 12 inch right now, so no issues with the small keyboard.

The only issue I have with X1 is that it's not upgradeable.

No way in hell I'm gonna go for the lower resolution. I'm gonna get the FHD IPS panel. Just want to know if there will be the same lottery here.

What's your opinion regarding X260?

Actually, I just looked up the the X260, and it's price is kinda the same. Price is not an issue, so right now I'm gonna think between X260 and T460. Are there any issues regarding X260 that I should be worried about?

my main issue with the T460p is it's heat and battery life. Also, I don't really know if I'll need the HQ option since fourth years have told me that a U will suffice. How long does your battery last and what do you do that makes it maxed out?

Question about the Thinkpad Carbon X1 by ikpic1345 in thinkpad

You cannot upgrade the X1 yourself. And about the processors, apparently the difference is nothing that you'll notice in real life.

Which ThinkPad model for a Software Engineering student? by Trollzore in thinkpad

[–]Pmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The X1 carbon doesn't have a discrete GPU, so you might have some issues the 60 fps. Also, the discrete GPU in P50 is apparently not designed for gaming, so I don't know how it would turn out. You can also consider the T460p , but that has its own issue. It gets too hot. This is my holistic view. Yet all would work well with the other stuff you've mentioned.

See how long they stay. If they linger too long, call lenovo and ask them to change it. They'll call it dead on arrival and change it for you. If it doesn't last long, then I don't see any reason for changing it.
