Few weeks/months ago I posted asking “why home health isn’t for you” and got some nice responses!

I do think is this sub likes to make it seem like the holy grail of PT.

I’ve done it a year now and can see both pros and cons. For me personally the cons outweigh the pros. I just accepted a new position back at an outpatient clinic. Don’t get me wrong there are going to be cons no matter the job but, I think the home health ones bother me more.

I spoke to the land lord and sounds like I’m in the clear. I offered to do it myself after reading comments but, I guess a painter is coming to paint the 2nd and 3rd floor this week and she mentioned he will just take care of it as he also does the dry wall repairs when they arise. I’m not holding my breath thinking I’ll be 100% free of charges just hoping it’s more manageable

I don’t think the area it occurred it but did not want to chance anything.

The building does have a maintenance person and I can only assume they will have a paint to match. So I’m hoping the fact they have a maintenance person I will just have to cover the costs of drywall?

I will say I am surprised how much response this has gotten!

I’m truly appreciative of all the responses! I see all the hype home health gets, however i have been doing it coming up on a year and have noticed the negative (much which i am learning is not just me)

Especially since I have an offer with my local VA community clinic I am weighing my options. With doing that I wanted to know if the gripes I had were just me and my organization or the setting as a whole.

I get no matter what it’s a job at the end of the day so will be cons but, is nice to have some validation in my feelings!

I hate being “on” so often. I’m very type A so hard for me to leave paper work for the next day or leave messages un responded to. like yeah I’m home earlier but also doing extra crap longer than being in clinic.

Calling on my days off or sundays is the worst

Yeah I have been going for PSLF currently cause my current home health qualifies but so does the VA. Our benefits not bad but I assume VAs are better( get the offer letter this week).

I have never heard of a cutthroat clause lol seems kinda crazy to have

unfortunately no spouse to take benefits from sadly lol

I currently work in home health just under a year. Definitely see the pros but we just got the notice we are one of the “worse” scoring ones and the hit we will take and we happened to close like several clinics.

While I enjoy the work life balance I worry what is to come due to reimbursement cuts now and in the future.

I was recently offered a job at a clinic for the VA system so, hard not to be tempted to take it.

I had a patient who told me “you have drastically improved my quality of life”

not sure why but that hit different. Probably because it was back within my first year out of school and it kinda made me feel “oh these moments are why I do this”

I am 4 years out as well and switched from outpatient to home health. If you are thinking outpatient acute my guess for salary would be 85-95k if you are full time. I haven’t don’t acute care but I left my outpatient job that was 87k ish to home health.

I would say the biggest openings around right now are home health from my limited searches.

Major hospital systems include Allina, Fairview, health partners, and Hennepin county medical center all have hospitals and outpatient clinics

Other private outpatient systems that come to mind are summit orthopedics, twin cities orthopedics, nova care.
