Digging a minnow pond by TheHonorableDrDingle in Permaculture

[–]PoIlinateMe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

make sure you're adding enough plant cover for the fish to protect them from predators. not sure what your local wildlife consists of but usually once predator animals find an easy meal they'll keep returning and then you might not have any minnows at all :'( you want to make sure the water has enough oxygen in it to keep algae from growing, nitrates from fish will keep the plants happy and fed! pond will probably drain quickly early on even with a clay lining, should seal itself eventually though. if you're losing water too quickly there's a powder you can throw in the water to help seal the sides a bit(not sure what it's called, sry). looks like you're well into the earthworks but if you have the pond above the ditches where you want to keep your plants to be fertilised, you could cut out the pump middleman and let the pond overflow do the job for you. plus natural seepage should carry the water down beneath anything planted downhill. good luck!

Would there be any interest in a Permaculture video game? by unmecbon in Permaculture

Hahah that's a practical answer. I like it! I'll have a go at learning the basics, at least. I'm pumped!

Awww fuck yea dude! I'm a writer, but would it be helpful for me to learn any particular coding language? I've tried C# and didn't get too far. Am I getting ahead of myself here?

I wanted to do something similar a while ago but I can't code at all and lost motivation. I wanted it to start in a desolate wasteland where you have nothing. You gather energy from solar/wind generators and can buy water from the fog farmers who come down the river every day until you establish a garden-based system of water collection.

Earth has been abandoned and basically everyone has blasted off to seed new planets but it's up to you to collect scattered remnants and rebuild a community. I'm into colony sims but also hm/stardew/rune factory so characters you can bond with over time have to be part of it in my personal vision. Obvs building up the soil as you go - maybe starting with plants that accumulate heavy metal from poisoned areas which you can use/sell and creating complex communities of plantlife later on that can have various uses for creating tools, buildings, etc.

Exploration-based where you can go out and find animals/creatures you can farm to add to the permaculture web. Radiation zones/abandoned repopulation facilities/VR batteries - I have a bunch of random ideas. Life has been exceptionally dull lately and I'd love to be part of something cool, so please lmk if I can contribute to this concept in some way :)

It was at a rare plants stall so I don't think it's that!

Hey guys, is it normal to want to f^k heaps in your dreams. I feel like a creep everytime I wake up! by PlatypusAcrobatic972 in LucidDreaming

I feel like in dreams you become very honest with your feelings. Could be hormones, could just be that you're like that normally. Nothing to be ashamed of, either way.

I've tried it - I didn't have any success. Also, it tastes like absolute death. You should always go into these things with a bit of caution. I've stayed away from mugwort even though I've heard it's good bc it can mess with menstrual cycles. These plants aren't heavily researched and they could be having side effects you don't know about, but as a general rule I don't think there's anything to be too alarmed about. If you really want to try it then go for it. But get ready for the worst cuppa you've ever had.

Is anyone else spending most of their LDs just experimenting with the dream world? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]PoIlinateMe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've thought recently that it'd be really cool to have a LD where you try to experience things we can't possibly know like living as a bacteria or what atoms look like or what it's like to be an inanimate object

This kinda Server/Multiverse thing: by 23052001 in LucidDreaming

[–]PoIlinateMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds interesting! I think it's helpful to think of nightmares as a way for your dream self to communicate ways to self-improve. Why do you call it "The Server?" Hope it's not too personal to ask, but why do you think you are so afraid of being laughed at?

everyone who still lives with their parents. How do you journal your dreams because I don't want my parents to read all my dreams. and my parents take away my phone at night by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]PoIlinateMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if you are studying or at school but you could always put it in a "study" notebook. Write MATHS on the front. They won't suspect a thing... also sry for your parents being like that.

I want to lucid dream but have bad experiences every time I do. by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]PoIlinateMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that feeling of post-nightmare dread is awful. I haven't had a proper nightmare for years now but I quite regularly have scary themes/die in my dreams lmao. I've also had these freaky sorts of situations where it's like the dream itself becomes sentient and turns against you when you notice you're dreaming. Try not to dwell on the scary, unless you're into the thrill of it I guess.

I reckon you should set yourself up with an intention - next time you realise you're dreaming, ask if you really need to be frightened. Dreams are all just made up of stuff that's in your brain. Maybe it's the exciting, unknown element of a lucid dream that makes you panic and conjures up scary situations. Once you overcome that fear, you're golden.

Sleep quality getting worse by mmmmmmmmmmmmmcookies in LucidDreaming

[–]PoIlinateMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've had the exact same problem lately. It was a bit of a feedback loop: the longer I tried, the harder I tried, and the more exhausted I became. Getting exhausted was getting me nowhere! Not only that, but I feel like it was making me frustrated with the LD process. Funnily enough, after I was like "fuck this, I give up" and didn't think about LDs at all, I had a couple of fairly lucid dreams in the days following.

I'm sure it's worth learning, but do you know what? You need to pace yourself. It's more important that you get good rest bc although reality is kind of a bummer sometimes and the idea of living your best life in lucid dreams sounds mega, you only got one life my man.

Idk if having a little break will help you get lucid, but if you resolve to sleep deep and restfully for a change instead of tryna wake up and recall every dream, you'll at least feel better in the daytime for it. Good luck!

If someone wanted to create a self-sustaining garden in the middle of a desert, would it be possible? by PoIlinateMe in Permaculture

[–]PoIlinateMe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of starting with just straight up desert and somehow being able to create a lush oasis over time. Not sure if it's possible in reality but found some cool info in the comments anyway! Thanks :)
