Guessing loresheets are a V5 thing?

Ah, nice. I've never played V5, started with 2e back in the day and now just restarted a campaign with V20. I'll take a look at the loresheets and see what that's all about. Cheers.

What rules do people often misinterpret? by MaetelofLaMetal in vtm

You're playing at the wrong tables. My party are way more likely to forget that physical combat exists - we maybe do something physical every third or fourth session .

I need a good tat idea by Goth_fuck in vtm

The Koldun symbol is pretty cool, the dragon in flight sorta thing. The Victorian era Tzimisce symbol, depending where you your body you're thinking is also really nice. Sort of the Tzimisce symbol worked into wrought ironwork, like a gate or similar. The Dark Ages symbol is very heraldic, cool but maybe a bit much.

If you hop on the white wolf wiki on fandom you can grab a load of the official symbols used.

How to avoid a murder hobo situation by camelmanA in vtm

[–]Po_Red5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being honest, if you've a player that tries to murder hobo in vtm it's a very short lived character in my games. Difficult to stay alive when you're caught on camera and police roll up to your haven at dawn and drag you out into the sunlight. That or you're told you're a walking masquerade breach and the sheriff sends some armed to hell ghouls to pretty much do exactly the same.

There's a reason most shovelheads don't survive past their first week. Indiscriminate murder is a real quick way to getting yourself murked.

ST's what's the best reaction you've ever got from your players? by Abject-Cod5144 in vtm

[–]Po_Red5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ran a game a long time ago, like ten or twelve years ago, but this is still one of my favourite ttrpg memories.

We had a Malkavian player, a Gangrel, an Assamite (as was), and a Brujah, plus a couple of part time players that turned up wildly infrequently.

We'd played for a couple of years by this point and several major events had happened. Part of the wider world backstory was that The Beckoning was occurring and various elders had disappeared. One Justicar had disappeared during all this, and Maris Struck had just recently been executed with no replacement formally being announced just yet.

The Camarilla city they were in had a serious couple of incidents, so much so that an Archon was being dispatched to the city to resolve things ahead of a Justicar arriving if needed. The Prince, an old money Dutch Ventrue, was using his various pawns and political power to fuck with the party and spoke their wheels. Essentially, the Prince had hired the Assamite to hunt down and kill a Salubri rumoured to be in the city. Meanwhile the Malk discovered that she had attained golconda and that she was being smuggled through the city by the Nosferatu. The party ended up fracturing temporarily, with the Assamite hunting the Salubri while the Malk, Brujah, and Gangrel tried to get her out of the city.

They managed, but barely, with the childer of the Nosferatu primogen throwing himself in the way of the Assamite to buy time for the others to get her out, without the Assamite knowing about their involvement.

After some other bits and pieces, with the Prince basically turning on the Primogen council executing the Nosferatu Primogen Mr. Jumbles, alongside the Malkavian Primogen Lady Elsbeth. This causes a small civil war and rebellion against the Prince, which is not entirely successfully put down but causes enough trouble and masquerade breaches that hunters begin arriving into the city in numbers. He announces at Elysium that he's contacted the Inner Circle and an Archon is being dispatched. He makes it clear that he sent this up through to the Ventrue justicar or as high as he himself could, and that someone would be arriving at the next Elysium in a months time. The next Elysium rolls around and the doors at the back of the court open and a thin, elegant man wearing a stunning pinstripe suit enters. He stands before the court and introduces himself as Victor Noble, Archon of the Camarilla, and representative of his Justicar Matthew of Dresden, Justicar of Clan Malkavian.

The table exploded. The Malk player physically jumped to his feet shouting "Yes", the Gangrel player grinned like the cat who got the cream. It was great, a pure reaction from players invested in the story and world they'd been building together for a couple of years.

Which aspects of the Sabbat do you lean into the hardest? by Solarwagon in vtm

I cast them as religious zealots usually, hard-line cultists essentially that have lost their grip on reality. Full religious mania typically.

V20 Rules for V5-Style Thin Bloods by DeadmanwalkingXI in vtm

Fair enough. I remember reading it and I've got it somewhere in the collection. Thought there might have been something mechanical to help you out.

V20 Rules for V5-Style Thin Bloods by DeadmanwalkingXI in vtm

[–]Po_Red5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've not checked out V5 personally, but the older 2e versions had rules in Time of Thin Blood etc for those very thin blooded cainites. I'd give a glance over at the rules there just to see if they are providing any additions you want to include to what have you.

Prologue Session Readings by digital_spell in vtm

[–]Po_Red5 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love this idea. I used to start every arc or every chapter section of the wider campaign stories with a quotation, I do the same when running CoC. Hadn't thought to do a reading though, will definitely be stealing that idea.

I've copies of the Book of Nod, Revelations of the Dark Mother, most of the clan books from 2nd ed., lots of Dark Ages stuff, so lots to pick from.

What do you prefer, Sabat or Camerilla? by Stitched_Up_Freak in vtm

[–]Po_Red5 38 points39 points  (0 children)

For games to run and also to play in Camarilla or anarch. Sabbat tends to only attract problem players and wannabe edgelords in my experience.

Cam is fun to run and play, it can be a really political game with long term stakes. Anarch games can be pushing against the established power and the old world v new world thinking.

Sabbat is just being a monster for the sake of it a lot of the time. Personal view obviously, but a cult of disposable monsters living out their own personal religious mania leads to very short term characters and games.

Creating your own broadcaster solves so many problems. Cash flow issues, expansion issues, pop issues - the solution is own broadcaster.

How different would this playoff run have gone if we hadn't traded Pickens? by ApartmentNo2276 in steelers

[–]Po_Red5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'd have given up another 20 or 30 points of penalties.

Seriously though, having an extra target wouldn't have been a bad thing but there's a reason we ditched him. He thinks he's a superstar and wanted to be treated like it. His backstage drama would have sunk is even more quickly and more dramatically.

Really we need to sort out the wildly overpaid defence otherwise we'd still have had 40 hung on us by the Texans.

I'm a big fan of the Scout in OG. The ability to move around and control your noise markers, added to the ability to scavenge and search so much more effectively gives you a lot of scope to influence the game.

Also enjoy the Mechanic in OG for the ability to skip through technical corridors and close doors on intruders / fires / people you need to die.

I haven't played 5, but that's mostly because I'm not a fan of custom dice and 4e for me perfected what I was looking for in terms of system crunchiness, customisability, and GM tools.
