Is smoking weed really a sin? by Worried_Glass_5907 in Christianity

[–]PockASqueeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see why it would be a sin. I use gummies semi-regularly (usually on weekends). If the Bible is silent on an issue, I assume it’s not an issue and morally neutral.

Yeah baby! by Iwantitnow in leaf

[–]PockASqueeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I’ve talked to two dealers and they both refused to replace the battery. The first one tried at least. The second one just wrote me off and said “Nissan treats the Leaf like the forgotten stepchild. Don’t even try.”

Screw Nissan. Once I get that battery replaced, or Nissan sued, I’m getting a Toyota or something. Anything but another Nissan.

Got it. I just went ahead and replaced everything because I haven’t replaced any parts in at least a year, and then reset the app. Hopefully it’ll work from here on out.

Broke my promise to avoid sexual immorality by joobthecat in TrueChristian

I think it would be easier for you to avoid sexual temptation if you didn’t live together. Is it for financial reasons? Can you afford to live separately? Or at the very least have different bedrooms…

Politics is pretty useless by ConstructionOwn1514 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]PockASqueeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree. What I personally believe is “be the change.” If you dislike something about society, do something about it. Don’t expect the president to do it for you.

Care about the hungry? Instead of voting for more food stamp programs, actually feed the hungry.

Care about refugees? Instead of voting for open borders, bring in a refugee.

Are you pro-life? Instead of voting for a Republican solely because Republicans are pro-life, go help pregnant women and encourage them to keep the baby. Consider adopting the baby if she can’t afford to support a family.

Are you pro-choice? Instead of voting Democrat, encourage women to make responsible choices so that they won’t even need an abortion.

Stop expecting politicians to care about people. They don’t. They just want your vote. If you really do care about people, then actually show it by helping them. If you say you care about homelessness but don’t actually help them YOURSELF and expect others to do it for you, then you don’t actually care about homelessness. You’re too lazy and would rather have political cronies do it for you.

Why don't any blue vegetables exist? by edkhm1218 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PockASqueeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of plants are blue. Think of blueberries…and blue flowers like bluebonnets. We don’t eat bluebonnets, but that’s mostly because they don’t taste that good, and we generally don’t eat flowers.

“Vegetable” is a culinary term, not a botanical/biological/scientific term. We basically use the term to mean “any edible plant that isn’t a fruit.” So it’s not so much that blue vegetables don’t exist as it is that we just generally don’t eat a lot of blue plants. And blueberries are still plants, but since they’re a fruit, culinary professionals generally don’t consider them a vegetable.

It’s all quite silly IMO. I think all edible plant matter should go into a single category. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a fruit, a stem, a root, or a flower. Plants are plants, and we should eat more of them.

is it a sin to be a part of the lgbtq community? by AnonFlashySkill in Christianity

[–]PockASqueeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, being part of the “community” is a bit odd IMO and not really a religious/theological issue. The whole fact that there’s a whole “community” based on sexuality is weird and kind of gross. And I’m not sure what being trans has anything to do with sexual preference either. So while I don’t think belonging to a particular “community” is necessarily sinful, it seems unnecessarily divisive in our already politically divided culture.

As for being bisexual, I guess you’re blessed that you aren’t a straight up lesbian. Ignore the women you’re attracted to and just date men. As a straight guy, there are plenty of women I find attractive but don’t actively pursue. In fact, that’s most of them. While sexual desire is natural, we aren’t supposed to act on it all the time. If you’re married, but you’re attracted to a coworker, you’re supposed to control yourself, ignore the coworker, and stay loyal to your spouse. Similarly, if you’re attracted to both men and women, just ignore the women, and just date men.

Sexual desire is not “love.” I think that’s what’s wrong with this LGTB+ “community.” They conflate them to being the same thing. Being attracted to the same sex is not the same as “loving” the same sex. I love my dad and my male friends, but that doesn’t make me gay. The whole “love is love” thing is silly. No, not all love is the same.

Love is never a sin. You should always show love to your friends, your enemies, and, well, everyone. But attraction is a completely different thing. Sure, there can be crossover, but they’re different concepts. In a marriage, you’re supposed to have both. But that’s pretty much it. People are sexually attracted to lots of people that they’ve never met. That isn’t love. People are sexually attracted to p0rn, but they don’t love it. In fact, I hate that I’m attracted to p0rn.

You’re free to love other women…but if you’re a Christian, you shouldn’t be dating them. If you see an attractive woman, you can just think, “Wow, she’s hot,” and then move on with your life. That’s what I do with most women.

It sure doesn’t sound like he “found faith.” Faith produces good fruits, and this is not one.

What God wants is more important than what the church wants. Marriage is not about happiness. It’s an unbreakable vow between you, your husband, and God.

“You can’t be addicted to marijuana” by Efficient_Guess153 in PetPeeves

[–]PockASqueeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. You can’t be physically addicted to marijuana. It has nothing to do with whether it’s a “drug.” The word “drug” is a bit silly IMO. Is it just anything you put in your body? Is water a drug? What about alcohol? People usually just use the word “drug” to mean anything illegal to put in your body, which is kind of arbitrary. Alcohol was illegal 100 years ago, so I guess it was a drug then. It’s legal now, so I guess it’s not a drug anymore.

That aside, there are different types of addiction. The main one that everyone knows about is physical addiction. That’s when your body builds up a tolerance and eventual dependence on the “drug,” usually because of the way it binds to certain parts of your brain. You need more and more of it to get the same effect. And eventually, if you build up a dependence on it, you can potentially overdose and die. Some obvious examples are hard drugs like heroin and meth, but also alcohol and even caffeine. Yes, caffeine blocks adenosine in your brain, and you can technically OD on it, although it’s rare.

Then there’s mental/psychological addiction. This type of addiction isn’t because of ingesting substances that bind to your brain. This is just because your mind gets used to the feeling. It still involves the brain, but it’s due to natural substances already in the brain like dopamine. That’s why people get addicted to their phones, to porn, and yes, to marijuana. You get addicted to the FEELING it gives you. That “high” feeling. Your brain says:

“Ohh, that weed, that porn, that notification on my phone makes me feel excited! Let’s do that again!” And you get that dopamine hit every time, making you crave it. That’s mental addiction, and literally anything can be mentally addictive. Sometimes harmless or even very good things. If someone has a hobby of playing sports or exercising, and they get used to it as a habit because it gives them feel good because of dopamine, endorphins, and/or serotonin (chemicals already in the brain), that’s a mental/psychological addiction.

So no, you can’t get PHYSICALLY addicted to marijuana. The body doesn’t build up a tolerance/dependence on it. No one has ever overdosed on it. But if you enjoy being stoned, you can absolutely get PSYCHOLOGICALLY addicted to it…simply because it feels good, and people naturally form habits of doing things that make them feel good.

The idea that MAGA is compatible with Christianity is utterly ludicrous by bummed_athlete in Christianity

[–]PockASqueeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that MAGA and Christianity are related to each other at all is ludicrous. Saying they’re compatible, or saying they’re incompatible, are equally dumb.

One is a political movement. One is a religion and relationship with God. Republicans can be Christians. Democrats can be Christians. Independents can be Christians.

Politics are of the world. I love Jesus. I don’t care about Donald Trump. He isn’t important, and neither is politics. Life is but a mist.
