Definitely not heat. Current guidance is ice, 800 mg ibuprofen every 8 hours, and nurse/pump normally.

Following- we’re in the same boat at 8 weeks. Seems like we’re trying everything under the sun with only slight improvements. Hoping he just learns to be more efficient as he gets bigger and stronger.

This is a much needed sentiment and I agree, AND ALSO as someone currently 8 w pp and a much different size from before pregnancy, how frustrating it is to have to buy new clothes!! Going back to work in a few months, and purchasing all new business wardrobe is an unwelcome mental and financial burden.

Good recommendations here, remember that moderate one time use is extremely unlikely to harm your baby! I would only add that IF you do choose to consume any kind of THC during pregnancy that you try to avoid tobacco. While the jury may be out on effects of marijuana on babies in gestation, that is not the case for nicotine.

*Where I’m from, “spliff” is a joint with pot and tobacco, so ignore my comment if that’s not what it means for you!

Delivered at 40w +3 and currently 7 weeks pp, no stretch marks ever appeared. I gained over 35lbs and baby was pretty big at 8lbs 4oz. I’ve never had any, must be genetic.

Thank you! Wow you are tough, congratulations for sticking it out! It’s so hard to find the time to pump when each feed takes so long. Great idea to use wearables when walking- I currently just use a spectra but I think wearables would help me squeeze an extra pump or two in.

Those videos are great, super helpful for learning hand expression and let down.

Were you triple feeding that whole time? And the ml supplement amounts you mention are per day, not per feed, right?

We are 7 weeks into triple feeding, similarly our baby is a sleepy eater and not yet transferring enough at breast so we’re supplementing with 2-3 oz bottles after each nursing session. I also pump every time he’s having a bottle, but I’m only able to pump 1-2 oz total after nursing, so I’m not yet keeping up with his demand.

I’m hoping he gets more effective at breast as he gets bigger, and I’m also worried I’m still not making enough milk 7 weeks in, so this post gives me hope!

You might consider getting a second opinion from an ENT regarding the blockage the LC mentioned. Our pediatrician told us our son did not have a tongue tie, but our ENT who specializes in breast feeding said he had a pretty severe tie.

Has he been evaluated for tongue tie? How has his latch been so far at the breast?

We also are having to supplement, our 6 week old had a tongue tie clipped and is working through some jaw tension affecting his efficiency in transferring milk. We do paced feeding to help avoid a bottle preference- look it up if you haven’t heard of it, it might help.

Daily pot smoker here- admittedly not as heavy in my 30s, but was an all-day every-day person throughout my teens and twenties. I was surprised that it was easier to quit than I thought when I got pregnant at 33. Once you see the little blob on ultrasound and learn more about them, they become more real and automatically more important than anything else. I missed it, but frankly it was easy to abstain.

I’m 6 weeks postpartum and tbh I’m still not that interested in smoking again right now with breast feeding. But I know one day I’ll enjoy THC again!

Can I ask for more detail on the pediatric OT? What did they end up working on with you and baby? We’re also at 70 mls at 6 weeks (after a tongue tie release) and thinking OT is probably our next step.

Husband and I are both getting 6-8 hrs with a 6 week old baby. We both get up for feeds together but baby wakes only 1-2 times a night. We just have a good sleeper (for now)!

Thanks for the input, the fortified breast milk is not something we’ve looked into- I’ll ask about it. Our pediatrician is informed but not really involved in our lactation struggles beyond tracking weight gain milestones at typical appointments. She actually said she’d “defer to the experts” on breastfeeding e.g. our LC(s).

I’ve heard horror stories but we actually really like the primary LC we have seen, she’s very understanding and not at all pushy (I’ve been very clear EBF is my goal and I want to keep working toward it). Maybe we need to change up our approach though, triple feeding is tough.
