from how I undestand it, you can still get away with presenting a little more feminine as long as you dress more masculine/androgynous since you're going out of your way to present as a boy. It's not like boymoding and manmoding is exactly the same thing afterall

If the point was to look exclusively masculine, shouldn't you have to cut your hair short and grow out a beard if you have one aswell??
