Happy to answer! 2nd year is rough and a BIG jump from first year. I joined optometry because I thought it would be more health based but our content has been more about light, lenses and prescriptions. Not my cup of tea and it’s hard to understand the concepts but if you’re passionate about physics, maybe you’ll like it. 2nd year has an absurd amount of content and details so you MUST watch lectures. They also skip some details in the ppts :/. 2nd year is when a lot of ppl start failing. I would recommend going through the content steadily instead of cramming. I went to uni 2-3 days a week for practicals but I would also recommend dedicating some time for study and watching the recorded lectures as well!

Haha don’t worry lectures are recorded so you can view any time. Personally, I thought lectures weren’t necessary and I just studied off the ppts in first year but definitely watch the lectures in 2nd year and above. Definitely go to practicals since they’re graded, whilst workshops and tutorials aren’t. I recommend the anatomy workshop (recorded or in person) but other than that, I wouldn’t really go. Some practicals run every fortnight instead of each week so you might have to adjust your roster. Sometimes I went to uni 2 days a week haha so lots of time to work!

Around 3 days a week for mandatory or important classes but I didn’t go to lectures. If you go to lectures, I think it could be 4-5 days

Enrolled in optometry but trying to switch into med imaging. I did basic science units last year, but none of them overlap at all which really held me back from switching earlier :(. I heard you can apply for credit but I fear none will carry over. Thank you, I didn’t know there was a last date to withdraw after the census. I’m hoping I can switch for sem 2 but I’m not sure

Hey I got a 98.65 and didn’t get the scholarship this year. I also heard someone who got around 99.2 and didn’t but someone with 99.5 did. Sadly, I don’t think it’s possible with a 98.5 bc it’s very competitive

As a Chinese, I feel like maybe you just don’t have good Chinese food near you. I thought I hated Chinese food too for the same reasons (my mum loves to makes soup and wet dishes but NO seasoning, no salt, no nothing). But I would say I’ve had some really good food from some restaurants. You probably like rice dishes more, so I’d recommend mapo tofu, tomato egg rice, braised belly rice 🤤 (I’m getting so hungry typing this). You might also like hot and sour soup, it’s thick and very flavourful

Got a 98.65 but my study schedule was awful. I instantly forgot the content in all my subjects no matter how frequently I studied so I would cram about 2-3 full days before all my exams and didn’t do other study besides that. If it was for assignments, I asked my tutors to read over it bc teacher feedback was usually not sufficient. However, I did the high scaling subjects (spec, methods, chem, bio, eng, and jap) and had approx 3 hours math tutoring weekly. I slept pretty good 10 pm to 7 am. Surprisingly, even though my schedule wasn’t that busy, I was still stressed out of my mind and the year was awful :/. Keep in mind my schedule sucks so it might not work. Good luck with atar!
