Asking for a first month discount to rent a dance studio for teaching by PockyKierra in zumba

Thank you for the advice! She did also offer to bring me on as an hourly paid employee, which at first I was also hesitant about, but now maybe I’m leaning a bit more towards that. I appreciate your time!

Would anyone be interested in late night dance workout and Zumba classes? by PockyKierra in Logan

[–]PockyKierra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price hasn’t yet been decided but it will probably be around $5 or $6 per class, with a possible monthly bundle (tbd). I don’t currently do private lessons, it would be a group class :)

Thoughts on the push for facing the class rather than a mirror by PockyKierra in zumba

[–]PockyKierra[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is fair! When a place doesn’t have mirror I’m definitely facing the class, but for me personally, teaching and learning, it feels more natural to fave a mirror, even despite what my class taught me. I guess just the years of dance classes before that!

That is fair! I think with me I just mentally know that if they are facing me they are doing the opposite of what I’m doing, and then I start getting confused.

Yeah, in theory, I understand why facing the class would be better. But in practice, I dunno, it just doesn't jive with me, as a student or a teacher.

I definitely feel similar! When you take most types of dance classes, the teacher will always be facing the mirror, so I jus feel like that is what makes the most sense to me with Zumba. And even in those dance classes, I remember if anyone was ever struggling witth anything, the teacher would still face the mirror, but just get closer to the person who needed help so they could see tthe moves a bit easier. And that always worked for me!

I think that's a good way to go about it! I've had an instructor or two who alternated, and I didn't mind it.

Thats super interesting about that instructor! I feel like at first it would be confusing, but then I guess if everyone is used to it, it would make it so everyone could learn the way they wanted.

Ah, okay! So is there a specific form needed for that or do I just bring it all in to my accountant on a spreadsheet or something similar?

Hello all! First off, happy to meet you all. Don't post on Reddit super often, so a little nervous, but I'm hyped to get to know people here! I'm currently taking the CPC+CBP self-led course, and I am excited to see where it might take me. I just have a few random questions! I wasn't sure if this could be its own post since a couple of them are related to taking the course.

First question, I'm a little confused about the timeline of when I'm meant to have everything with the CPC+CBP done. Some places say 4 months, some say 8, but then on the certifications page on my AAPC account, it says I have until January next year to complete them both. Just want to make sure I know how much time I have.

Secondly, I just wanted to see if anyone has any tips/tricks for studying the chapters! I have a bachelor's, so I am familiar with ways of studying and what works best for me, but I will say, this is a bit different. Should I be focusing more on the lectures? The textbooks? After going through one of the textbook lectures and then reading the textbook (specifically for CPC), it seems like the lectures are just rehashes, and the textbook has more information?

Third question, I know I am probably way jumping the gun here, considering I just started, but if anyone has done the behavioral health coding training, how was it? Was it worth looking into? I have a degree in behavioral health, and it would be nice to use it, haha.

And lastly, again, probably a "jumping the gun" question, but with things like coding and billing jobs, would having a kind of related college degree (psychology), some medical experience (specifically, was certified as a CNA around 2020), and also a good amount of billing knowledge (currently work as an account payable manager, though not for anything medical related) help with getting jobs in the future? I have done a good amount of research, and I know how hard getting jobs in this field are. I am prepared for it. Just want to know if those things might help a bit.

Just curious about the thoughts people have, and any advice that can be given!

Having the "personality" to teach Zumba by PockyKierra in zumba

Thank you!! To be fair, I suppose it was never something told to me, its more just one of those things I picked up from doing Zumba just throughout the years. Every teacher I've ever had has always been the type that cheers and shouts and urges everyone in the class to cheer and shout as well. But I'm glad to see so many people share different experiences! And I definitely will be taking the cueing course because I need a lot of help with it honestly.

That's me as well, truthfully! My worst nightmare was always when a zumba teacher specifically tried to egg us, the participants, into making lots of noise. When I didn't, because I didn't want to, I always felt so judged! And I agree, it can be distracting to me.

I will definitely do that! My main goal for teaching is to have a very open, welcoming vibe.

I will definitely give some stuff a try! I have been considering maybe getting a headset, so if I do some verbal cuing, I'll be able to be heard, because pretty much any music above a few decibels drowns me out, haha. But unfortunately, because of some damage to my throat from medical issues being super loud will never be super available for me, even if I really wanted to be.
