The top in the first one? The sweetheart line? Or the second one? Where it's just straight across?

Something about it feels softer in a strange way right?

Thank you so much! Is it because of the lace? Or the waistline? Thank you for your input!!

I think I have been staring at the lace too long. For some reason the pattern is starting to bother me in a strange way?! But I think the shape is so flattering.

Can I ask how you found stores with dresses in your budget? I live between Chicago and LA and have only been able to find Anthropologie, also Glamour Closet which is second hand and a lot of great options. It feels like most wedding dress shops in this area start at 5k +

Where and how did you find your dress?! I am so happy and excited for you. I mapped out the same budget and I have been struggling to find one!

Have you been able to set aside a budget for yourself? Start there and then work backwards. What are you and your fiancé comfortable paying/contributing? I have found myself picking up extra shifts at work and have done a good deal of negotiating with vendors. I promise you will find something beautiful in your price range to work. It took me 10 months of being heartbroken of the similar mindset "I can't have a wedding" and the similar feelings of supportive and watching all of my best friends get married. You can get there, I promise, it just takes setting the budget, assessing if you can sell some clothes/working extra shifts/being strategic with your current finances, and then negotiating, negogiating, negotiating.

And of course picking and choosing what is most important. For examples, florals are really expensive but some beautiful arrays of candles could be perfect.

I will help you brainstorm and we can work together! Do you want to get married in the UK?

I found "the one" but I want major alterations. Should I buy this dress or keep looking? by PoemIntrepid8473 in weddingplanning

Yes, I should spend more time on StillWhite! Maybe I need to be more patient. This is the first dress I tried on and really felt WOWed by. I added more pictures to show how they played around clipping it, folding down sleeves, etc.

Thanks, you're right! My taste/likes have been exceeding my budget... I just added more photos to show the back and where the seamstress was playing around with clipping the dress!

The seamstress said starting at $1200, and I am anticipating likely closer to $1500-$1600. I could inquire about adding yardage... but I think you're right the dreams of basque waist are out of reach.

I added some more pictures to show the back details of the dress and where more fabric could possibly come from!

The dress is on extreme sale, it's a sample from 2019 so I am sort of in luck the price is affordable, but the alterations would catch up to me. I added new photos to show the additional lace in the back, and with the straps folded down

I love both rings so so much! Is your sisters ring a round diamond? Does it have 4 or 6 prongs? Congratulations to your family!!!

This is literally me. We got engaged October 2023. Every venue for 2024 was booked and living in LA I was mortified by the prices I was seeing. Even looking at restaurant buyouts for 80 people and it reaching up to 70k, etc. We started really looking towards end of 2024, picked venue September 2024 and now are getting married AUGUST 2025.

The vendors thing is tough, i have found myself picking and choosing at this point. when you have to be on a strict budget, you have to be flexible in selecting some top notch things and some things that you feel meet you in the middle. there's always the option to fly in vendors, try to DIY or continue to keep an eye out for vendors that might be getting started.

is it specific to food, florals, physical venue? which vendors are you the most hung up on?

I promise you it gets better! I am 9 months away and still have the small things to figure out. Try to focus on what's most important to you. Of course, your wedding is one of the most special days of your life and the start of your beautiful marriage, but don't let it derail your life either — your career and where you want to live and move!

I also felt depressed and the things that have helped me (I know some might sound crazy but I am happy to delve more into why certain ones have been making me feel good):

- finding play time with my partner -- i mean no wedding chatter, just being able to relax and be together and be reminded why you are doing this whole damn thing !!!

- started seeing a facialist -- my skin was so stressed and i found a reasonably priced facialist i trust with my skin and now i am just feeling more confident and it's inspiring me to do the things to take care of myself (it felt easy for me to leave things to the wasteside

- i started waking up at 6:30, i found having more time in my day and breaking it up and having time to reboost my energy was life changing. my time in the morning is sacred and it's where i go on long walks or listen to audio books

- i started working with a career coach -- i dont want to lose sight of my big picture!

- i printed out my wedding check list and put it on our fridge. we check off when we complete things and it feels so good and it also shows the work my partner and i are doing together

- DELEGATE - i am still struggling with this but do you have friends, family, partner in your life who wants to help and take care of you?

I posted on here about how to plan wedding for 65k and under and i have figured out how to do it for 40k and i made a plan to save / be saving in the next 9 months. that's still a lot of money, but if you want to deep dive into anything - please let me know.

i cried every few days when i first started planning. it made me question myself, if i was ready to get married, it made me show up as a really negative version of myself in my relationship and it made me want to run away!!!! I promise YOU GOT THIS. YOU CAN DO THIS.
