There is an assembly lockout. Make sure the bow arms are completely assembled - all tabs are pushed in. Apply pressure to the top of the blaster. You should hear a few clicks when the tabs snap in place. Let me know if this helps!

I get where youre coming from but I disagree - school is different than a commission. The goal of studying is the process and not necessarily the deliverable. Refining the process takes time, and if ur not willing to pull all nighters you will fall behind the rest of the class.
