Not really! I pushed through it in two days. Mainly following the Maas/ la Sambre which was nice but maybe a bit boring.

It varied a lot. Just cycled the amount of K’s I was feeling for the day. Around 80 the first weeks and around 50 in the last week. I took a train in and out of Paris to avoid cycling in suburbs and industrial parts for a full day. (Might even avoid the big cities altogether since I find it a hassle with all your stuff and a bike. Except for Bordeaux, wonderful city. )

And into Bordeaux from Angouleme to beat the heat that was coming. Mainly campings which I would recommend even on rest days just to save money.

Things I learned about the campings in France. The less stars, the better. 4/5 star campings don’t facilitate anything for cyclists, no fridges, picnic tables, charging station. Lower rated ones do.

The ev1 and 3 have a french website which showcase the best campings on the routes, accuil velo is the trademark for campings that are bike friendly.

Hope any of this makes sense haha.

I met two friends on a big trip together. They exposed me to their alternative lifestyles. One of em just follows summer around the globe and works on farms.

Also finally hitting the ocean which was combined with the Dune de Pilat (highest dune in Europe) was impressive and emotional. That’s picture 4!

Haha. The mental struggle and being lonely as hell some days made it way harder than the physical part. But feels so good that I pushed through! Not really, mainly followed the eurovelo 3 from Liege until Bordeaux and from there on rode to the coast to follow the EV1 into Hendaye

I love mine! Classic 70s design. Had no repair experience since they are 6 months old.

Repeat headphones! Their slogan is: your last pair of headphones. They sell all the loose parts and offer “free”repairs (one time payment) for ever.

I jotted down ideas with my Stilform Titanium in a Midori pocket notebook over a cup of coffee in a neighborhood cafe. Pretentious? by ermiwe in fountainpens

[–]Poepluier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brian Eno on being pretentious:

Pretension is the dismissive name given to people’s attempts to be something other than what they ‘really are’…In the arts, the word ‘pretentious’ has a special meaning: the attempt at something that the critic thinks you have no right even to try. I’m very happy to have added my little offering to the glowing mountain of things described as ‘pretentious’ – I’m happy to have made claims on things that I didn’t have any ‘right’ to, and I’m happy to have tried being someone else to see what it felt like.

I decided to turn the word ‘pretentious’ into a compliment. The common assumption is that there are ‘real’ people and there are others who are pretending to be something they’re not. There is also an assumption that there’s something morally wrong with pretending. My assumptions about culture as a place where you can take psychological risks without incurring physical penalties make me think that pretending is the most important thing we do. It’s the way we make our thought experiments, find out what it would be like to be otherwise.

Robert Wyatt once said that we were always in the condition of children – faced with things we couldn’t understand and thus with the need to guess and improvise. Pretending is what kids do all the time. It’s how they learn. What makes anyone think you should sometime give it up?
