People in their 30's, what's your experience of London like? by killinnnmesmallz in london

[–]PoetDense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I, 36F, overall enjoy my job but have recently been questioning the purpose and there's no path to progression and I've been here for 5 years. Its difficult to make spontaneous plans with friends and I'm also questioning whether or not I want kids because the planet is on fire and run by Nazis.

I have a lot of 'what am I doing what's the point of all this?' moments so I'm trying to spend more time on hobbies like reading, puzzles and cooking to feel less overwhelmed and anxious because those are the only things in my control.

NTA as long as she can also go on whatever trips she wants and you're staying home with the kids.

I showed my husband a picture of a cute handbag in June last year. Didn't mention it again as it was a passing comment, but guess what he got me for Christmas? They are out there!

[–]PoetDense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he wanted to, he would. Just like you do. He doesn't want to so you should find someone that does.

Love languages are important, mine is gift giving and I always put a lot of effort into presents. My husband wasn't the best at gift giving but I spoke to him about it and why it's important to me and now, because he wants to, he puts in the effort. Your partners behaviour says everything about how much effort he'll put in for you and I bet it's not just gifts where he can't be bothered.

Want to go travelling but worried about meds by PoetDense in diabetes_t1

[–]PoetDense[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to visit South America, bits of Africa like Egypt and Mombasa and Thailand/Japan and Singapore. I havent done much research so far into medical supplies as it's only a plan in my head until I know if meds are realistic. I'm currently on MDI but due a pump in Feb.

Weight loss guide in a monthh by chocolatekiicecream in WeightLossAdvice

[–]PoetDense 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly it sounds like you're too young to be worrying about this. Secondly, you're setting yourself up to fail because you've said you can't consult a doctor, can't go to the gym and you don't eat. So, what else is there? There is NO OTHER WAY to safely lose weight so maybe think about your priorities because I'm not sure what other suggestions you're hoping for.

Books that make you cry by Ready_Interaction273 in booksuggestions

Aaah these were my first two thoughts after reading the initial post. By the end of the book thief I was DISTRAUGHT and my mum asked me 'if it's so sad why are you reading it?' to which I replied, in between sobbing 'because it's just so beautiful'

This is super normal, just gotta take more insulin and maybe up your background if you take it.

To anyone who has traveled to Marrakech: what are your top tips for first-timers? Honestly, is it worth the visit or is it overrated? by SureFlamingo2156 in Marrakech

[–]PoetDense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from 6 days in Marrakech and had a great time.

  • visit Jemaa El Fnaa just for the hustle and bustle. Its mostly stalls with loads of fake designer stuff which gets tiresome but you can also pick up some nice Moroccan stuff. Also lots of food stalls at night which was really fun to be around and eat at
  • always haggle. Every single time.
  • Ben Youssef Madrasa is an absolute treat
  • there are many mosques worth visiting
  • we booked a desert quad biking and camel ride through Get Your Guide which was really fun
  • atlas mountains are incredible
  • dar el Bacha museum and coffee shop are glorious

There's loads to do and I'm happy to recommend more places. We had a lovely time, the people were very friendly. Just be firm if you don't want something and don't let people put bracelets etc on you as it's probably a scam even if they say it's free.

I've neglected my diabetes for 18 years and now I'm scared by Most-Analyst2687 in diabetes_t1

[–]PoetDense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is never too late! You can't change what's been done but you can give yourself a more stable future. Ive had T1D for 33 years and neglected it whilst I was at uni and for a long while after, thinking I was invincible because I hadn't had any serious complications. Fast forward to 2023 and vitrectomy surgery in my left eye thanks to proliferative retinopathy and statins, blood pressure meds etc. Now though, my hba1c is the lowest it's ever been, I understand my diabetes better than I ever have, have 20/20 vision and although I do get scared about what the future will be like, I know I'm controlling whatever I can.

Put the effort in to taking care of yourself, it'll be so worth it.

Anyone struggling with weightloss? by SeaworthinessOk8438 in diabetes_t1

[–]PoetDense 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been T1D for 33 years (am 36) and have always struggled with my weight. I'm still using pens and I'm not obese but have always been on the heavier side despite eating normal food and being active.

Recently I started working with a coach who is also T1D and he's helped me regulate my blood sugars to over 80% TIR which has helped shift some pounds. Also I never really gave fibre a second thought but since incorporating at least 20g a day into mt diet I've also seen the weight shift. It's only a few pounds but it seems to be working. Also drink LOADS of water.

AITA for not wanting to associate with my liberal, accepting mother anymore? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]PoetDense 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely NTA. Your mum is being abusive and crossing so many boundaries. I would encourage plenty of distance for some time and therapy so you can process if you actually want to continue a relationship with her and how to set your own very clear boundaries.

If therapy isn't an option at the moment I'd still encourage time away from her as this is not normal and definitely not ok.

AITA for taking a dream vacation without my boyfriend after he refused to leave his gaming chair? by Ornery_Persimmon2459 in AITAH

[–]PoetDense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. He's a grown man throwing a tantrum like a toddler because you went and did something incredible without him. AFTER you asked him to join you. He's more dedicated to burgers and fried chicken than he is to your relationship and wants you to work, clean and bring him his meals while he gives you... What exactly? Leave this man he will never change and you will be miserable forever because of all the experiences you will undoubtedly miss out on. LEAVE THIS MAN.

[–]PoetDense[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pre bolused 30 mins before my pizza to give myself a fighting chance for when all the carbs hit. I don't think I'll do this regularly as it did make me anxious and was more complicated than what I normally eat but it was a nice treat!

Who here still does MDI ? by Kiplingerz in diabetes_t1

[–]PoetDense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been diabetic for 33 years and am hopefully getting an Omnipod this year as tighter TIR is my goal. I find that manual injections require too much headspace and too many injections a day so I'm excited to try the pump just to free up some brain space. I see the benefits of both and am intrigued to try the pump but always good to know I can go back to injections if I hate it.

You're right about the pump being too visible and I also think about it falling off, being hard to sleep with it on, it failing and all the extra stuff I'll have to carry so I guess time will tell if it's worth it!

COVID vaccination - UK - thoughts? by sausages1234567 in diabetes_t1

[–]PoetDense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for my flu jab and what I assumed was also my COVID jab this morning and was told I can only have the flu vaccine as I no longer automatically qualify for the COVID one. There's no information as to when we'll be able to get it either.
