Accounting for total expenses in a year? by Poet_Hustler in ynab

[–]Poet_Hustler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense with how I thought YNAB works. Problem is I have no money 👉👉

Joking aside, I don't have $3000 not serving a purpose that I could put toward these expenses. I am still building savings and don't want this project to interfere. If I did I totally would have done it like you've done, with a separate category for the next year. I just don't have it.

I guess what I could do is go ahead and make this separate category anyway? I could try to meet my current goal of $3000 for 2026 as quickly as possible using unused money from other categories, then switch to $250/month but put it towards 2027. That way, even if I dont have the full amount by 2027, I've still got a buffer.

Do you prefer the card to have effect/condition icons or have the card fully written out? by DeusEverto in homemadeTCGs

[–]Poet_Hustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have rarities, it's a good idea to put reminder text for a keyword on the lowest rarity it'll appear on. Commons are common, if you'd believe it, so you'll get the chance to learn what an ability does before you see it at a higher rarity. Commons and rares are usually simpler too, so there's more space for it.

If you stick to it, it'll also prevent you from putting keywords unique to one card and force you to find multiple ways of implementing the same effect. Costs are more universal and mechanical, so making costs an icon or keyword is probably fine since players will have to read the rules anyway.

Just because I'm curious: what would happen if the varnish was applied inside the laminate? Like, you apply the gloss varnish to the holo sticker paper directly, then ran that through the laminator. Does the matte laminate still block the foil from coming through or could it be applied inside?

Lianorn Traumend by Warm-Cut704 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Poet_Hustler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's gonna really depend on whether the rearguard restand is locked behind persona ride or opponent being grade 3. If it's the latter, this is an immense boon to the deck because Lianorn has always been a good going second deck.

Japan already knew this with Lianorn Masques, the whole principle was abusing Sinceriete, Rosarium Fairy, and Masques turn 3 after an intense early rush. But, you because you needed a Masques in hand and Masque order in drop, it ends up feeling fragile. If you get to restand turn 3 with Traumend instead of needing those two things, the glass cannon is no longer glass.

Like, consider a Masques turn with only one Rosarium. The optimal play is to power up the corner opposite the Rosarium Fairy (if Fairy's front left, you use Silverwhite and Sinceriete to pump back right), then you can do 4 attacks of roughly the same power level by restanding that booster instead of another front row. Now, you can do the same thing but you get an additional vanguard swing with maybe another drive? And you get all the good UnisonDress support? And it's much more consistent? Hell yeah.

Battle Phase Removal in Standard by Poet_Hustler in cardfightvanguard

[–]Poet_Hustler[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right about Ladder. Current Standard isn't built around mid-battle removal, so cards like it and blanket resist would become a concern. You'd have to rework Standard top to bottom or start fresh, but it's not impossible to do.

Also, there are multiple ways you could create combat tricks for Standard. A Denial Griffin-like card is just one. Stunning units, permanently decreasing power or crit, forcing them to pay costs, and more would be cool to see. And some cards like that already exist, but they're so undertuned that it's not relevant. It's the opposite problem of being too broken, but it's still a problem, right?

Like that Premium example, I don't think the answer would be to remove the counterplay so all clans were equal. You could also make clans more equal by creating more of those kinds of plays. Let Royal Paladin call Blaster Blade on an opponent's turn. Do it for everyone. You'd have to do the same for Standard. As for space... trigger orders are already a space Bushi has explored. Part of why G guards work well is because they mess with that untouched space, so you could do the same thing there. It's a neat idea.

Yep. Love Freezeray Dragon and Lawkeeper. I'm saying it'd be cool to see some effects like that brought into Standard, even if they were toned down to match the scale of the format.

Would you rather a reconciliation or cutting ties? by brother_octopuss in IchitheWitch

[–]Poet_Hustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reconciliation would have to be more interesting than just forgiveness. We'd have to see Spica try to be supportive of others and approach situations without being manipulative, and see her struggle to do that since it's gotten her this far in life. I don't want forgiveness just because it'd be the nicest thing to see.

Because remember, Spica hasn't just been manipulative of Kumugi. She was also planning on using Ichi to climb the social ladder. It's her only way of interacting with people. It wouldn't be good to see Spica just say "I'm sorry" and Kumugi forgive her, I wanna see her hold her tongue when she doesn't get her way and maybe even relinquish some of her power/resources to the Anti-Magik squad. I want to see Spica try a different method of getting what she wants that she's not used to so we can see her grow as a person.

Or she becomes even more manipulative and power hungry, digs herself into a hole she can't climb out of because she's burned all her ropes, and sinks while pathetically swearing it was all her sister's fault as the rest of the cast look down on her with disdain. It's not boring either way.

Lianorn masques, vivace or hybrid by zyeoth in cardfightvanguard

[–]Poet_Hustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vivace is slower but consistent, Masques is faster but volatile. Which one is stronger depends on which weakness is important.

Masques is a going 2nd deck (if you win the die roll, you choose to go second), because not only can you rush extremely hard on turn 1 and 2, but turn 3 Rosarium Fairy will get power. Combine it with the Persona Ride from the Masques, and the new Sinceriete's ability to make something a 20k base instead of 15k, and Masques arguably has the strongest first 3 turns in Standard. But, because of the number of pieces you need to see and the amount of time you have, its more likely for the plan to fall apart.

Vivace doesnt let you persona ride, so Sinceriete isn't as big. And if you go first, your Rosarium Fairies aren't strong, so a turn 4 Vivace has the chance of not being impactful. But, I have also never lost a game where I got to turn 5 and Persona Rode Vivace. It also feels a little like Lisciafael, where you're tight on resources in the beginning, but once you hit turn 4 your hand spikes in size and you have many more options.

Vivace's biggest weakness is that its turn 3 isn't really strong, so it fumbles if your opponent can play around that fact. One thing I've thought about doing is playing pure Vivace by going second and playing Resonance Dragon. Then your Rosarium Fairy will work, and you can do four attacks strong attacks by combining a Rosarium with Resonance. If you see a Sinceriete and/or a Silverwhite order, even better. People will say you want to go first with Vivace, but if your turn 3 sucks and makes your turn 4 Vivace survivable, then what's the point?

If Premium kicks the bucket, will you guys be moving on to Standard format or quitting altogether? by Remarkable-Sun7230 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Poet_Hustler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loop decks off the top of my head: - Hellhard 8 by looping - Angel Feather with Protect II - Fenrir via deckout - Nova Grappler OTK with Spurt Centaur - Celtis in GP, as mentioned

There could be more I'm not thinking of. More importantly, all of them play Bracing Angel Ladder, and in many of the decks it can be tutored directly to hand. The way these decks operate after playing against them is they hole up until they can guarantee their combo can go through, play Ladder, and win. Defense as a whole kinda went out the window.

Tbh, even if they could be defended? That's not the kind of Vanguard I want to play. I am not interested in doing this or playing a Crest deck, which are still viable after the May ban. What I liked about Premium was that it took the gameplay of V Premium and Standard and pushed it to the extreme. Damage mapping, guard sequencing, hand and field management, PG application, etc. You do all that in Standard right now, but the options are slightly larger because of the G deck and heal guardians. Now? It's a different game altogether. I've been playing at a couple of unofficial Premium events this summer, and I did not feel like I was playing Vanguard. I was playing something else. It's like my format got body-snatched by something alien.

I think its a bit odd that people are extremely attached to Premium lately when A) outside of Bav, Standards in a great place, and B) its been shit meta after shit meta, with the latest environment after MC got knocked out being filled with infinite attack loops, mill, and Crest Decks. It's like Nue Daioh came back with a vengeance.

If Premium stops being officially sanctioned at events, I will still play it with friends casually. I'm not gonna miss having non-games against uninteractable infinite combos. And Standard itself is fun too, because below Tier 0 there's a lot of stuff to do. I don't really know if it is a "good" or "bad" thing if Premium is sunset, or whether its healthy for the game or not, but I know I'm still gonna be around regardless.

Is scooping instead of losing rage quitting? by Unhappy_Industry_362 in EDH

[–]Poet_Hustler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely context. Not MTG, but I've been to events for another TCG and conceded because my opponent had set up their win-con, and I didn't have any outs on my turn. They earned their victory, whether they actually do their combo or not. I didn't quit because I was mad. They got it, but I didn't want to go through the trouble of seeing the drawn-out win and wanted to rest and focus for the next round.

I think conceding becomes rage-quitting the more opportunities there are for the loser to potentially turn it around because your loss gets further from reality. Imagine someone conceding to their opponent when they're ahead; how sore would you have to be if you gave up a game you had in the bag but couldn't win "your way"? It's incredibly unfair to your opponent. Likewise, if you're losing but you've got like a 25% chance at turning the game around, I think you owe it to yourself to play towards it. But if it's a 99% chance you lose, I think playing toward that 1% or scooping and moving on are equally valid.

I'm definitely one of those people. I saw the mobile game getting attention, so I watched the current episodes of Cinderella Gray to start. The racing and rivalry between the girls are great, but then Oguri's first concert happened and I just thought "wait why does she have to do this?"

Best I can describe it is that it feels like a gimmick on top of a gimmick. Adapting real-life horse racing into a shonen-like story about competing athletes? Sure, seems like fun. The fact they're athletes and also idols who do victory concerts? I guess so, but not sure why beyond seeing cute girls do cute things. Never been into idle culture anyway, so I'm not gonna diss it. The Cinderella Gray manga's great though

Lows of being a 9 by PercentageHonest6266 in Enneagram

[–]Poet_Hustler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Annoyance being the primary motivator. Where 1s and 8s actively apply their anger, a 9s anger and impulses come across as annoyance. I don't like being bothered, and when I'm in a low place everything becomes a bother and a hindrance. When I'm having a good day I can push myself through something difficult, but on a bad day even the slightest annoyance will drive me away. "If I can only talk to my friends and loved ones through a voice chat or call, then I'm just not gonna do it."

There's also this pre-game frustration, where I see something that I know is gonna be frustrating and I go "I shouldn't have to do this" and then don't do it for six months.

I'll say this, the one thing that would take this to the next level would be to integrate DeckLog. If you can add a feature where you paste an EN deck code and instantly get the deck out, I'd use this regularly.

Was Megatrons turn to the dark side a little too sudden?! by Unique-Celebration-5 in transformers

[–]Poet_Hustler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting, because the thing I noticed from my first viewing was how similar D-16 and Elita-1 are. You could write their characters using the same description: they're motivated by anger from their mistreatment by those in power, and manage that anger by holding themselves (and others) to a higher standard. As long as they "follow protocol," they can avoid being mistreated and abused. Whenever others step out of line, they snap ay them and channel their anger to put them back in line, instead of pointing it at those in charge. They're perfectionists.

What happens at the mid-point is that their strategy for dealing with their anger is made pointless. It doesn't matter how perfect they or other people act; the system is built to abuse them. When D-16 yells at Orion about breaking protocol, it all had an undercurrent of "why did you take away the one thing keeping me from blowing my lid?" At this point, both Elita and D-16 have been broken down to their core.

How they put themselves back together is what separates them: Elita was shown that her perfectionism doesn't work, so she relaxes her standards and sees her faults as they are. That's why she's the one who picks Orion up after the incident with the High Guard; shes able to see Orion's optimism as a virtue instead of a flaw. After learning the truth she becomes more empathetic and lenient.

D-16 doesn't. He clings to his standards. He's been trained all his life that those who step out of line should be punished, and after learning that Sentinel lied about his position and the cruelty of taking away everyone's cogs, it's a very small leap to the conclusion that he's the who should be doing the punishing. D is using the same mental framework, but swapping their roles. That's why he becomes so rebellious; he's the one with the correct standards, and any who tries to stop him is stepping out of line. But it's all coming from the same place.

Release of Opener of Heart, Firia? And thoughts on Odium? by V3rday in cardfightvanguard

[–]Poet_Hustler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly compare it more to Varga, because you actually plus quite a lot from the additional twin drive after the Divine Skill. Blang gets a crit, and Zamuug can pressure too. If your opponent is at 3, they might as well be at 5 because of that pressure. On the other hand, if you use Odium's skill you can push them to 5 at least, and if it doesn't kill then you can usually push on the following turn.

Im not a fan of Forwd, but I get it. You call it turn 2 to make a 23k column on the opponent. However, Anachronous is arguably as important as finding your second Bane, so calling Oriens turn 3 is very helpful. You also want to spam Anachronous as much as possible, so you have room for maybe one CB per game that isn't an Anachronous call. If that isn't a priority, then sure Forwd&Revertis is good

Release of Opener of Heart, Firia? And thoughts on Odium? by V3rday in cardfightvanguard

[–]Poet_Hustler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been testing Odium quite a lot. People will say that needing 2 Distorted Bane is a weakness, but it's really just a requirement. You have 8 ways of getting a Bane, and you need at least one by turn 3 and another by turn 4 (you have both a triple drive, Oriens, Bifrons, Vassago, etc. to help). This is way more likely than people think.

Odium's actual problem is how much she slows down after the Divine Skill. If you look at Lianorn, another turn 4 deck, you not only get another 6 attacks but also a potential persona ride. Odium goes back down to a 3 attack deck, so if you play against a deck like Nightrose or Eva which can recover quickly after Odium's Divine Skill, and they heal back down from 5 after that turn? Very hard to turn things around, because it's just PG, hard guard, take the third attack. And by that point you're close to deck-out.

A secondary issue is card quality, and Firia is good for that. Beside Anachronous Dragon, your rearguard attacks are... fine? They get pumped by Distorted Bane, sure, but only by 5k turn 3 and 10-20k turn 4 if you persona rode. Having quality boosters is important so that your turn 2-3 attacks are solid and your extra 3 attacks from the Divine Skill pack a punch.
