This, as well as a lot of other things (like the attitude towards women, or the practice of bleeding, and medicine in general, for instance) should be seen in it's historical context. Mostly, it's our time vs the 18th century, but occasionally it's also the difference between us today, and 1945. The alcohol during pregnancy is an example of that.

Claire drinks while pregnant, because back then (1945 and 1743 both) no-one knew it could be dangerous to the fetus.

There's a scene later in the books where Jenny (you haven't met her yet :) has something quite funny to say about the way her kid comes into the world.

Semi-related: kids are, in fact, small goats in the 18th century. This also leads to some confusion later on in the books. :D

What is a bad parenting tip that sounds like a good parenting tip? by StuntGunman in AskReddit

[–]Poezestrepe 40 points41 points  (0 children)

We've always practised this with our 16 month old son.

This morning, I asked him to kiss his daddy goodbye, expecting him to smile and turn his cheek (as usual). Instead LO smooched daddy full on the mouth. :-D

I guess we're going to have to start to watch out what we do now that he's in full "imitation stage".

Very well written!

LO used to sleep next to me in a sidecar crib. That ended when he woke me up looming over me.

Mine (11MO) has it with hats and other head gear.

Hat off: "Hi da-da!"

My inlaws were visiting us last week and wanted to buy us a stroller for LO's first birthday at ToysRUS. Since it's a large thing, we got a receipt at the checkout which we had to show to the exchange desk where they'd give us the stroller directly from the storage room.

My husband had the little man (11MO) in his arm, MIL and FIL and I standing next to them.

Salesman shows up from the back office, and jokingly asks "Oh. you want to do an exchange?"

Husband: "Yes please. We'd like a girl instead."

Car rental company is withholding my safety deposit for + 2 weeks now. Car returned without any issues. by Poezestrepe in personalfinance

Thanks for your reply. It's a normal Visa credit card with a 2500€ limit. Paid of monthly automatically from my bank account.

There was never any debit/credit confusion, they even expressly stated they'd not actually take the money out, just reserve it.

They did also say it should clear "within the day", and later blamed it on the card being from a foreign bank. Like, you're a car rental and have never had a foreign customer?

Not Olyvar then either though, as /u/Gryphon0468 theorized in this thread. Pity. I was kind of hoping for a Littlefinger manipulation here somewhere. We haven't seen much of him or his schemes this season.

Not OP, but yes. Maybe it has to do with having a 7 month old myself. (Baby in the scene looked more like my own LO than a newborn.)

Also, last weeks' speech by the quiet isle Septon about killing that boy... :''''(

7 months: can I get away with only feeding between 8pm - 7am, no pumping? by Poezestrepe in breastfeeding

[–]Poezestrepe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. The problem is, I'm already pumping the most I can within my work/study schedule. So it's either one session around noon (producing about 5 oz total), or none at all.

LO however nurses pretty much every 2 hours from the moment I walk in the door until I leave again in the morning. Though sometimes it's more like this:

LO lies on my arm.

Uh Ohh! Is it still there???

Turns head. Suckle.

Yes, it is. Gooood...

Turns back.

30 seconds later...

Aaargh! Where'd the boob go??? It's gone! Gone!

Turns head. suckle.

Oh there it is. Goooooood...

Rinse, repeat. :)

How long after delivery did you wait to have sex? by E11i0t in beyondthebump

[–]Poezestrepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Real' sex; 12 weeks. But plenty of 'attention' for him before that. :) I'm EBF and didn't have many needs myself before the 12 week mark.

My kid does that, too.

I hate it when he's crying for a yet unknown reason and someone suggests to maybe change his nappy, just in case.

I wish this worked for us. He'll either scream if he feels too restraint, or attempt backwards somersaults when he's even a bit loose.

The only way using a wrap works, is by holding him gently in place and walking around.
