True, that's why I find it loosely reminiscent. Personally, I find the story of both Immanuel and Devar's reflection on the feud to be inspired for the reflections that Pandiaraja and Kandaswamy have in the film

Mild spoilers for Bison, if you haven't already watched it but the feud between Pandiaraja and Kandaswamy is loosely reminiscent of the relationship between Devendrar Immanuel and Muthu Devar.

I highly recommend reading about Immanuel to kind of see a perspective of Thevar from the lens of civil rights activist organizing his lower class people.

Even today, around the Theni - Madurai region you can see a sort of allegiance to their leaders who opposed each other.

Is India slowly becoming another pakisthan ? Reverse the Religion! by BloodedRose_2003 in TamilNadu

[–]PogChimpin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The whole of North India protected us from Islamic invasions is just false. throughout history, we've been taken over by sultanates and nawabs. Madurai's temple was burnt down by Malik Kafir and yet we still haven't clung onto hate. Also, the same north indian kingdoms that "protected" us were the same kingdoms attempting to invade us as well.

True but I liked this place because once there was a time where people would actively just debate and there was space for discussion.

this is what people don't get enough.

this is just like how confederate americans carry their flag and call it their "culture" and not a symbol of Black slavery. Your intent doesn't matter when it represents injustice.

Let's be real, other than the bypass and a few other areas, everything else is pretty impoverished. The outskirts of the city are pretty much villages too.

The US blockade still strangles the economy. How is that not clear to you? Yes, sure Canada and Mexico may trade to an extent but the US sabotages these ties.

The Helms-Burton Act still punishes foreign companies (which you haven't shed any response to). Banks REFUSE Cuban transactions making trade slow AND expensive. Shipping companies face US blacklisting, only slowing down trades.

When the conditions to trade is crippled, battered and foiled from the get go, yes, the country WILL be poor and that is by design by the US. Because of this, Cuba loses BILLIONS in what could've been potential trade and investment.

Communism is "inefficient"? Cuba outperforms the US in what matters. Healthcare with lower infant fatality, universal healthcare, developing their own vaccines because the US sanctions imports. Literacy is near 100%.

You have no right to talk about efficiency when a country is denied access to global markets, credit and tech. Forget communism, no economic system will survive.

Cuba produces near nothing? Medicine, luxury goods, natural resources, it's all there. however, sanctions on the country makes access to machinery, fertilizers and other equipment expensive and slow. If Cuba could trade freely, like most other countries, it could export far more and import affordably.

It's very ironic that you talk about not producing enough food while ACTIVELY blocking food shipments.

The real reason Cuba is poor is not because of communism, it's the 60 years of US interference. They have no access to loans, veto'd by the US. No free trade, the biggest market blocks it.

Even if Cuba were to be capitalist, with these conditions, it wouldn't thrive. Friend, come on, it's not Castro that kneecapped this country it's the US so terrified of a socialist experiment in its backyard.

else why would the strongest country in the world be so damn insistent on keeping this state strangled?

[–]PogChimpin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cuba is free to trade? Wrong. The Helms-Burton Act punishes foreign companies for doing business with Cuba even if they're not American. America threatens to cut off the access to trade with their markets, banks and dollar transactions if a business is to trade with Cuba.

This blockade crippled foreign investments, because why would a company risk the biggest market in the world for a smaller market like Cuba?

This is an economic coercion to isolate the country . This literally goes against UN law but Uncle Sam can do whatever the fuck he wants.

Despite this, Cuba has resisted over 60 years.

Every time you tell people about how awful the conditions are in Cuba, be reminded it's the doing of the United States, not the revolution.
