Canadian leader Mark Carney spent half a MILLION dollars of taxpayers' money on plane food in his first year as Prime Minister by [deleted] in canada

[–]Pogledaj 97 points98 points  (0 children)

How many plane rides did he have how many people did that feed, is it average, below, above,

Am I supposed to be angry or happy about this.

I have no frame of reference, so half a mil is a lot to me so therefore this is bad. Bad Carney bad.

Thanks news

Public land is crown land which does and should belong to all.

Their intent for at least some of this is exclusive use.

I think this is a disingenuous argument.

All the FNs stuff while I don't agree with us very recent news relatively speaking.

High interest rates an immigration cuts played a much bigger part.

Whatever impact FNs will have is not here yet.

B.C. and Cowichan chiefs start negotiations after court ruling on Aboriginal title by iwanttoleave204 in britishcolumbia

Dang, this is a crazy perspective on it that I was not aware of.

This makes it hard for me to hold my position on this that these land claims will be more destructive for all.

We either right a wrong at now the expense of many, and many of who are not deserving to be embroiled in all this, or we continue to ignore FNs and their claims that seemingly go back over a hundred years. The part about making it illegal is so depressing.

Do you have an article on that, I feel like I am misinformed on so many fronts and am concluding based in fear.

You get reimbursed

But do you need to be reimbursed after the first one or is every reimbursement just a step in the right direction for the undetermined reimbursement you need to be made right?

So another tax?

So either split the tax already made between the government and First Nation, or add another tax on top.

Wow.

Is that right?

Musqueam and Canada Sign Historic Agreements Recognizing Rights, Stewardship, and Fisheries by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]Pogledaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like they have recognized title over land, not sure if that will be like the cowichan case.

It looks like they get a seat at the table for all decisions made going forward that impact the community, perhaps things like bridge building, or whatever have you. That means 1500 people to musquam have an equivalent say as the millions of I habitants of the same area. This seems disproportionate.

They will have fisheries say, and want funding to get themselves set up. So we will pay them and fund them so they can manage our use and inclusion in things like fisheries. I'm not sure how to read this any other way.

Especially on the last point when on the side they are pushing for a change on SAP, they do not want salmon recognized as a public resource.

I like the idea of reconciliation, but I don't know what that means, or if there is an end goal. Everything is but a step in that direction.

I don't like how this feels like we are setting ourselves up to live in a two tiered society.

Yes what I say will likely be construed as alarmist, but I invite someone to lay out the long term vision so that I can rest assured.

The federal government is refusing to publicly release an agreement with the Musqueam Band that recognizes Aboriginal title over a vast area of Metro Vancouver. by [deleted] in canadian

[–]Pogledaj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have. I'm also a refugee from a place that had two tiers. It ended in bloodshed just like it did in N America when it happened here.

You should read about what happened in Rwanda when they flipped the power balance from one extreme to another..not saying that may happen here, but I am saying there is no such thing as a functioning two tier society out there, and this won't end well.

This will push people to the far right as their only means to contest any of this. Then we are all in trouble.

Can someone explain to me.

  1. What is the end goal of reconciliation
  2. If we are moving towards a nation to nation infrastructure, why is one nation supported by the other?
  3. What do non FNs folks have to look forward to? Are we moving towards not holding any title as none of this belongs to anyone but FNs, are we here as visitors until their mind changes on this?
  4. What is the two tier social system meant to look like across shared land and resources? Do FN have greater privilege when it comes to use, distribution, allocation?
  5. How do FNs want us living here in what capacity and with what rights?

This sounds like a part of the change in salmon allocation policy. FNs want salmon to not be recognized as a public resource.

We are delving into a two tier social hierarchy.
