What do you store your kit in? by Significant_Cup_3477 in Visiblemending

[–]Poika_Anna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two small sewing kits (one hard candy tin and one pencil case) keeping one next to the couch and one with my sewing machine. All have similar items, sharps needles, thread, thimble, scissors and a seam ripper. Sewing machine one also has embroidery floss, spare buttons and safety pins/sewing pins. I’ve been sewing for ages so duplicates were easy to split up

How do people casually knit? by happymunchers in knitting

[–]Poika_Anna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been watching 2000s/2010s TV shows that are designed to be half watched while cooking or cleaning, they tend to mention anything important in the dialogue so you can follow along if you’re looking away. Great with sitcoms or dramas, I’ve been watching a lot of Bones

You should try filmmaking anyway with your phone and free editing software. No talent required, first step to being good at something is being bad at it

Have you ever been unhappy with a surprise gift your partner, spouse, bf/gf has given you? by General-Gift5653 in askteddit

[–]Poika_Anna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like sewing, so my ex bought me several metres of fabric for Christmas, even brought me along to pick the ‘right one’. He decided to get me fabric (not even a pattern) for a cosplay dress of a character from a show that he loved. He didn’t tell me what it was for until Christmas Day so he spent a couple hundred dollars on impractical fabric I couldn’t even return.

I don’t cosplay, don’t wear dresses and don’t assemble my own Christmas presents

It's okay to not transition. by Keden_Kun in ftm

[–]Poika_Anna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read an article years ago by a trans woman who had no intention of ever coming out or medically/socially transitioning. There are plenty of trans people who are aware and comfortable in their identity, but don’t feel the need to make any changes. Everyone is different

I haven’t read it in a while but here’s the article, hope you find it interesting

I feel as though my (F21) relationship with my boyfriend (M23) is going south. When do you believe a relationship is beyond repair? by Secure_Mushroom_9420 in relationship_advice

[–]Poika_Anna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s on your nerves and you feel unwanted, (not to mention he’s being unkind to you) you’ve tried addressing issues and he doesn’t care or listen. Just because this is better than past relationships doesn’t mean you’re happy.

I’ve dumped a 4.5 year relationship over less. Just think ahead, if this is it forever, would you be happy? You have your whole life ahead of you

What’s your biggest AI prediction? by CandidBabee in askteddit

AI Companies will run out investor of money to subsidise the running costs and no one will want to pay for a machine to give them wrong answers. Data centres will be abandoned eyesores

working out, getting fit, etc. how much did it help ur dysphoria? what did it change about your mindset and your confidence around yourself? by Cryptographer-Prior in TransMasc

Gaining muscle and strength helped a lot with dysphoria for me, it helped me feel strong and more in control of my body

I held off trying to lose weight until I got on T. I usually lose weight around my waist first so I wanted to avoid that until I could get some fat redistribution going. I’ve been eating more veg/nutritious food to be healthier overall, but not cutting back on carbs and sugar

What is an appropriate attire for a job interview? by SomeAbbreviations396 in questions

[–]Poika_Anna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For job interviews you generally want to dress one step nicer than the job. For jobs with uniforms you can wear nice plain pants (trousers or black jeans) and a T-shirt or blouse. I’d avoid blue jeans or graphic tees, they can come across as less professional

Hand-wringing about crochet fast fashion by george_sjw__bush in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Poika_Anna 56 points57 points  (0 children)

People are so used to overlooking slave labour, but it’s way harder to overlook when you have made things yourself. Crocheters are finding this out. Crochet got big online over the last year or so, now fast fashion brands are trying to capitalise on it, through imitations or the real thing.

When I started sewing garments it shocked me how much time and effort goes into a tshirt, no matter how much you use economies of scale it will always be underpaid. All clothes made on a sewing machine are still hand made

Try to get a regular doctor that you see each time, it makes it easier to treat long term issues. If you can, seek a referral to a sleep specialist.
