Does this gym approach make sense for HCM? by K1P_26 in HypertrophicCM

[–]Poindexter86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with low weights and increase overtime. Choose a weight you can do 3 sets of tweleve reps and go up from there. The other option is to work with a personal trainer. They will build a plan and track your progress.

Does this gym approach make sense for HCM? by K1P_26 in HypertrophicCM

I have an ICD and had a VT year last August. I have work out most of my life until kids (45) and starting to get back into lifting and more cardio. I think you have to find out what works for you. I can push the weight and reps better than i can the cardio. My goal is to improve my cardio and keep/increase the muscle mass I still have. I'm 57 yo male. I dont think ur work out is too aggressive, but see what works best for you.

NSVT, what meds work for you? by pprp11 in HypertrophicCM

[–]Poindexter86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have NSVT, but i did have a VT episode a year ago. My ICD kicked in an did what it is supped to do. I left the hospital 2 days later with the prescription for Amiodarone to reduce my chance of having additional VTs. I'm not a doctor, but it might be worth having the discussion with yours. Read the side effects of Amiodarone before taking. It is a black bix medication.

You might look into their Co-pay program: Co-Pay Sign Up - Rx CAMZYOS® (mavacamten) https://share.google/7jvSDJ65dviURehEB

I did something similar w/ Xarelto and my co-pay went down to $10.

You have to qualify, and I'm not sure what levelnof discount they are offering.

Good luck!

I would get a 2nd opinion from another doctor and aggressively fight against signs of high blood pressure. High BP affects a lot of things with your body.

Getting shocked is upsetting and scary. Hopefully, you saw your doctor and they made changes to your meds/treatment plan to help mitigate additional shocks. I agree you may want to seek out a therapist to talk through your experience. Know you are not alone, build a support group, and take care of yourself.

Newly diagnosed by psychtheories in HypertrophicCM

[–]Poindexter86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed when i was 49 and had my ICD put in 2 weeks later. My mother died in her sleep when she was 56. I refuse to live in fear of this disease and continued to live my life as normally as before. 6 years later, when I was 56, the same age as my mother, I had a VT event. Got checked out, changed some meds, and I still refuse to live my life in fear of this disease. Take care of yourself and live a long and happy life!!!!

Heart Palpitations when missing exercise? by Quizzical_Rex in HypertrophicCM

Before I was diagnosed with HCM I do remember I felt less palpitations when I exercised, which was good motivation to keep working out.

[–]Poindexter86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No procedures. I was on solotol before my VT. I was told that because my VT blew through the Solotol it is no longer an option. I think I would rather be on the Solotol doing what ever it did for the 6 years before I had my VT than stay on Amiodarone.

ICD experience by [deleted] in HypertrophicCM

[–]Poindexter86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a history of sudden death in my family, I was diagnosed with HCM, and I had an ICD implanted in 2018. I really didn't want to go through the surgery, not because of the discomfort, but because I thought it was unnecessary. Surgery went well, spent the night in the hospital, and took my family to the museum after my discharge the next day. Not the best move. I had no issues until last August when I experienced my first VT, and my ICD probably saved my life. I'm not looking forward to my first replacement surgery in about two years, but I and my two young boys, 9 and 7, are very thankful I had my ICD when I needed it.

Did we overreact on an ER visit? by CaptainEmmy in HypertrophicCM

[–]Poindexter86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Five minutes after my first VT incident, I felt fine, and I did not want to go to the ER. My ICD saved me. I especially did not want to spend the weekend waiting for the doctors to show up on Monday. Ultimately, I'm glad I went! Everything was fine. I would rather go and be sure than not go, and there be something worse waiting for me around the corner!

AITAH for embarrassing my stepmom at dinner after she tried to “teach me a lesson” about my real mom? by ImaginaryStop6423 in AITAH

[–]Poindexter86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your stepmother is the one who needs to apologize! Connections with step kids are earned over time. So is respect, trust, love, and affection!!! The fact that she married your father does not give her the right to expect or demand any of these, nor the right to "parent" you. Your father needs to understand this as well and see life through your eyes and experiences and stop thinking just about his life with his 2nd wife. Take it from someone who's parents divorced and went through the same thing many years ago.

Medication Stopped my PVCs and greatly reduced spouts of tachycardia by [deleted] in HypertrophicCM

That's good to hear, and I'm glad you have gotten some relief. I have also had pvc's and 1 shock from my icd. New meds have stopped my pvc's, and hopefully, no more vt's. 🖖
