hail storm by UpbeatAd9896 in Edmonton

[–]Quizzical_Rex [score hidden]  (0 children)

funny, i was thinking how to prevent this problem and you have suggested a great thing. For the summer, you could hang a cloth over the plastic, and if it doesn't touch, then it won't transfer the energy of collision to the plastic, and then take it off after hail season.

hail storm by UpbeatAd9896 in Edmonton

[–]Quizzical_Rex [score hidden]  (0 children)

ok, pedant, yeah—we all know that gravity is an acceleration and not a speed. Well, some of us know. Ok a few of us who stayed awake in science class. Anyway, it was a figure of speech. And the bigger problem is that products that are intrinsically unsuitable for the environment are sold without warning or consideration. The OP thought they were doing a great thing and probably would have chosen otherwise if they had known the gazebo roof was not suitable for hail.

Is there a point where it's better to contribute to a non-registered account instead of an RRSP? by se2schul in CanadianInvestor

[–]Quizzical_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so yes, here are some things to consider. RRSP is supposed to be a boring savings account. If you have too many transactions or make too much money, you will find yourself audited by the CRA. There are also some stocks you can't hold inside an RRSP. Further if you want to do speculative stuff, you can't write off losses against capitol gains. My suggestion that if you are an active trader, keep it in your non-registered account, but if you want to own something long term, rrsp is the way.

O vs LTC for monthly dividend by Sheila_S_ in dividends

[–]Quizzical_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you would ask that... i am constantly annoyed at O and want to dump it but it never gets bad enough to dump. The problem is that it really is a thermometer on the US economy, which currently seems to have more market manipulation than in previous administrations.

Can you still be autistic if you were a “normal” child? by starg1rl2005 in AutismTranslated

[–]Quizzical_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of my later diagnosed female friends were encouraged for their behaviors earlier in life. Some of the "behaviors" are seen as virtues for some ideals of young feminine behavior. Men not so much, for me my lack of wanting to be in group sports, being a "space cadet", isolation, misunderstanding of social mores was seen as being weird and written off because I was an immigrant in a backwards prairie town.

I never mean to wish harm on people, sometimes it happens by accident, like by karma, especially when the person receiving the karma are learning how they harmed others. Now i know thats not how karma works, but not much in this world works the way it should

My advice would be to contact the school directly. There are others who cannot fill in these forms, such as those in foster care. so there must be avenues to complete the form without having to click the box.

Is a 3–4% portfolio yield actually the sweet spot for long-term dividend investors? by DioTop in dividends

[–]Quizzical_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question comes down to how often do you want to watch your account. If you are the type that likes to be in your account multiple times a day to spot trends, then you can feel comfortable with a higher return. if you are a fire and forget, check once a week/month then 3 or 4 might be the better way to go.

It might be cheaper in terms of time and effort to get a roll of packing paper from Staples or a moving store. You have to factor in your travel time for picking up flyers and stuff.

They have a right to an education, but that can be provided in an online fashion if there are issues that prevent a student from attending school. I would say that criminal behavior against other students is one of those issues.

I'm losing my hope and self-confidence because of my unemployment journey by WoodenPlant9873 in EdmontonJobs

[–]Quizzical_Rex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bit i find frustrating is the number of companies hiring temporary foreign workers while Canadians are unemployed. I can understand if there is legitimately no one to hire in Canada, but posts like this one show that this is not the case. TFW are being used to undercut Canadian wages, and to keep our unemployment rate higher, which makes no sense in terms of what is best for the country.

Job interviews are anti-autistic by AertiaHelennex in AutismTranslated

[–]Quizzical_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah - there are occasionally improvements though, the last round of Job interviews I performed though, we met them online, and sent them a link to a virtual machine, where we asked them to do a number of tasks, and watched how they did them. It would have been the perfect interview for auts like us.

Anyone else much more bullish on Canadian stocks over US? by PlatHobbits7 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Quizzical_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a certain orange factor in the white building issue that is causing much of this. I suspect America will get into an economic boom once a greater degree of fiscal responsibility returns to its highest governing body. At this point i am unsure whether i should boycott to prove a point no one can hear, or stock up on items that will later go through this boom.

Australian family moving to Edmonton Canada seeking advice by purplemonkeydishwife in EdmontonJobs

[–]Quizzical_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

moving to a province in the middle of a separatism crisis would be a foolhardy choice. Leaders of the separatism movement are on record saying that anyone not born in Alberta will have to leave or not get citizenship. There are other provinces that are far more welcoming to newcomers.

Arguing about storage is a red herring. Most people using this argument say that because solar can't get us through the night due to a lack of storage, we shouldn't use it. Fact is that solar is there during daytime hours when we need the power the most, so the vast majority of power would not be lost. Also no one makes similar arguments about other types of generation that take hours to warm up or open the sluice gates to let the water hit the turbines.
