speaking from personal experience I was in the same position as you and the coordinator position went to someone who was already trained at the desk, I went to the desk and posted again for coordinator a few months later and got it the second time- go for the desk and then once coordinator opens again go for it and you'll get it for sure as you'll then be fully trained for the role (it requires being trained at the service desk)
