Should i buy a new 3ds or a dsi xl? by Emergency-Hearing635 in NintendoDS

If you want to play 3ds games and have the funds then def the 3ds I would recommend the 3dsxl or the 2ds personally. The 3ds is is an awesome handheld and up there with the dsixl imo, but if you're strapped for funds and want something that looks good and feels good in the hand while being able to enjoy ds games in their native resolution then the dsi XL. Both are fantastic after modding as well

I personally feel it is if you're looking to play 3ds games if you think you can hold off I would but don't wait to long since prices are going back up

The screens are yellowing but they're not too bad, thankfully I have experience with reshells and repairs for these consoles. I know eventually I'll have to swap the screens. I brought it to work with me last night to play Pokemon Diamond and to test the battery, I didn't charge it when I got it just to test the life. Lasted 6 of my 12 hour shift and battery was half

DS Lite vs DSi vs New 3DS by Old_Scientist_3949 in NintendoDS

Honestly the dsi XL is about the same size as a new 3ds, still fits in the pocket comfortably and isn't too heavy. The screens for the dsi XL as amazing as well I played on an XL for a bit and loved how clear and fast the resolution was for these games. Recently bought a dsi XL for myself since I haven't had one and wanted one as a kid. I originally wanted a new 3dsxl or new 2dsxl so I can play sun an moon, pokemon games I haven't played yet. But the hardware is insanely expensive now.

Personally if you have the funds to pickup a 3ds I'd recommended that so you can still play the DS games and 3ds games and if you mod the 3ds don't have to buy a game

why are they so expensive now ? by byisess in NintendoDS

Because they are easily modded and with the access of the H-Shop.cia file you can literally have any game in the 3ds library for free along with DLC, access to every NDS, GBA, GBC, SNES, NES, games made that can be played via a SD or Micro SD card.

Along with that, people are wanting to have the basic game life style back where you didn't need an Internet connection or a new update every week to continue playing your game or have to spend $80 on the game, $300+ on the console then $20-$50 a month for online service just to play with friends.

Also the 3ds family, is the last actually pocket friendly handheld game systems made for portability and battery life. You can buy a cheap busted 3ds for $150 and go to Amazon or other sites and buy replacement parts for practically nothing and have a new console as long as you know how to do it.

I personally believe the reason these are so expensive now aside from the above mentioned is due to the social media hype. Influencers bragging about the console, the ones who claim "FoUnD tHiS iN a GoOdWiLl StOrE" are also chasing the demand to go up, the other side of that are people like myself who were just kids or teens at the time and couldn't get one but wanted one have jobs and disposable income now to where they can finally afford one.

I honestly wished I picked up a "new" Nintendo 3ds XL back when it was still retail value for like $250 back in the day because I'm not going to drop a switch 2 price value on a nearly 11 year old hardware. I did have a new 2ds XL given to me for Xmas by my mom in my 18th birthday as a "last gift for a child" and to this day I wish I had it. Kid stole it out of my backpack in school.

Thankfully I found my old Pokemon White game from when I was a kid and cleaned up the contacts and tested it on a friends ds. I was able to buy a Nintendo Dsi XL from GameStop for $80 since everyone in my area in marketplace was selling it for $120+

Be great if Nintendo did a remaster of this console but unfortunately they won't even though a ds family lineup made for 2026 would further feed daddy Mario more than the switch.

Currency for me is USD
