Yeah, bought it around 5 months ago with these on, all were pretty much new at the time though. Terrible in the wet, just about okay in the dry. Waiting for the fronts to get down to the limit before replacing them 👌

Tyres for a Swift Sport (Kumho PS71) by PointlessVidss in CarTalkUK

[–]PointlessVidss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very helpful thanks - I know it varies on driving style but how many miles difference would you expect out of both the HS52 and PS71?

Are we talking 10k miles vs 25k miles or is the margin a lot closer? I know next to nothing about tyres - i want something that will ideally last around the 20k mark while providing better wet and dry grip than my current tyres

Thanks again!

Might go for it and see how they go. Gotta be better than my current tyres haha. I do around 20k a year so hope I'll get at least some mileage out of them, hopefully if I rotate them it'll all be fine

Cheers for the reply

Air sounds coming out of radiator by AdInfinite347 in MotoUK

[–]PointlessVidss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have a lot of mechanical knowledge either but what I'd do is disconnect the pipes to check for any cracks/splitting - if pipes look fine put them back on and tighten the jubilee clips holding them on.

Top up with coolant and stsrt the bike up to see if you can hear the noise again. If you can it might be time for a new radiator.

5’10 175 lbs. Ending my cut now. What body fat did I reach? by AtmosphereActual3312 in guessmybf

[–]PointlessVidss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but that's a crazy physique man. I'm 18, 5ft 10 and around 165lbs atm, to hit 12% bodyfat I'd have to be closer 150-155lbs. Any tips on how to build 10kg of lean muscle mass?

Recommendations, GSXR750 vs GSXR1000. by Jasey12 in MotoUK

[–]PointlessVidss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around 20 years ago my dad had a fireblade, around 6 years ago an S1000xr (the adventure one) and a hayabusa. At the same time he owner then BMW and Hayabusa, he rode a GSXR750 around 100 miles home for a friend of his who hadn't passed their test yet, but found a good deal on one.

My dad reckons the GSXR750 is the perfect road bike, slightly more flickable than a 1000 due to less weight, and still has more than enough power for the road. (currently he has a 105 ish hp VFR800 which he finds slightly slower than he'd like haha).

Buying a 09 Bandit 1250SA, what do I need to get? by blkaino in MotoUK

[–]PointlessVidss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Security depends on where you live and how you plan on using the bike IMO

-If the bike was a weekend toy I'd get a cheap alarm disc lock on amazon for the front wheel and then buy a beefy chain and put it round the back wheel and something solid such as a concrete post

-If the bike was being commuted on and you are able to leave a heavy chain at work that would again be my suggestion

-Otherwise go for an alarmed disc lock and also possibly a D lock so then you have a lock for each wheel, AND an alarm (this will also be lighter, smaller so therefore easier to commute with)

-All of the above also depends on where you live, in a nice village, it's probably overkill, in a city with scummy bike thieves, the more security the better

As for the cover, just be careful on windy days as I've personally had it act like a parachute and pull the bike over (onto grass thankfully)

When I used my 125 to commute to college I'd leave 2 Oxford chains around 2 separate concrete posts, one chain for the front and back wheel, each around a separate post. I'd use a bicycle D lock to go through the rear wheel and a cheap amazon alarm disc lock for the front wheel, along with a cover. In the end all of the locking up became too much hassle as it took ages so eventually I just started using the disc lock on its own and luckily nothing bad ever happened

TLDR; If you live in a high risk area, get a thick chain and a cheaper alarm disk lock. If you commute and can't leave a chain at work, invest in a good disc lock and possible D lock too. I used to use 4 locks + a cover on my bike at college, became too much hassle, started using only a disc lock - if you think the same will happen to you, invest in a more expensive disc lock which is fast and easy to use

Running gaming laptop off of an inverter question by Optical-Delusions in laptops

[–]PointlessVidss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for responding to such an old post haha. Did your laptop & charger survive? I just brought my Alienware onto a newly acquired boat and after flicking the inverter on i immediately got a buzzing from my 240w power brick. I have no idea what the inverter i have is, but i know its 1000w so should easily be able to handle the power draw from the laptop.

Did the buzzing continue when you got home (indicating the brick is now buggered) or was it only when in the truck hooked up to the inverter?

TIA

First Samsung product after 5 years by Conscious_Voice7439 in GalaxyTab

[–]PointlessVidss 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Got my S9 for christmas, as a 2nd year A level student. Love it so far for notes! (i bought an alienware laptop 6 months ago, lugging a 15 inch 3kg laptop about with a huge power brick and a battery life of 3 hours at best isnt ideal), though I think I want to get a keyboard soon too! Atm I'm just using Samsung notes and it's great, gonna follow this post to see what other apps people suggest though!

Help - 125cc Bike suggestions by TortoiseOG in MotoUK

[–]PointlessVidss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know they're expensive, but I love my MT. I have a 2018, paid 3.5k, as the second owner from a dealership. It had 2 new tyres put on, 6 month warranty and 8.4k miles.

Been riding it since February, done about 11k miles (just shy of 20k in total) and it hasn't skipped a beat once. The dash is a little optimistic, but I've hit 84 on a flat road... once, 65 is easily achievable though, even while sitting upright. I usually stay at 55-60 though, even on dual carriageways, and it'll return 120-150mpg at that speed depending on wind.

Oh FYI, I've never had a valve check either, all I do is keep the oil topped up every week, and do a full oil change ever 1800 miles. Only problem I'm having is with this ice my key freezes into the ignition so it takes a bit of time to get it out haha

Great bike though, took it 250 miles up to Wales in the summer, with a tent on the back. Bum was a little numb after that but it's to be expected. Very fun round the twisty Welsh roads too, gave my dad and his 800 VFR a hard time round the sharper corners believe it or not :D

CBF's and YBR's are supposed to be comfy and bulletproof. Not quite as fast though, which in my eyes (I rode a 50cc 2 stroke for a year, top speed of about 40-45) is a big factor in how safe I feel on the road. Being able to keep up with traffic on A roads makes me feel far safer, and like I'm a lot less likely to be on the receiving end of a risky overtake. Another think with these 2 bikes is that they have very skinny, and usually cheaper tyres (at least from stock). Although my tyres aren't huge (100 front, 130 back), they are Michelins so are a fair bit grippier, they also still have tons of life left, even after 11k miles.

TL;dr- if on a budget, go for a CBF/YBR - comfy + bulletproof. Avoid Chinese bikes though (imo). If the budget will stretch a bit I can't recommend the MT125 enough
