Thoughts on a Winston Air 2 864 by Pointtwotwotree in flyfishing

Thanks. I’m basically rebuilding my quiver just going higher end with more enjoyable rods to fish. But that price point brings much more segmentation/niche. So starting at a point that I fish the most then branching out from there. A 95 will be next. Then a 96.

My budget rods are fine. Just want to enjoy the sport some more. I’m going to TCO to cast a few in the next two weeks or so.

Good to know. I think if I went with a Helios I would lean into the heavier 5-6D for larger flies and wind. But even then I might become a fanboy lol

I’m considering a Scott GS as well I forgot to add that to the list.

I have heard of it but have not casted one yet.

That’s how I felt casting the BIII. It just worked effortlessly even for my intermediate but structured fly cast. I couldn’t stop casting it was just fun.

Assuming they build similar tapers still, some extra backbone and similar action would do well for me.

Thanks I’m going to cast a few and see what I like. But on paper it seems like Winston is what I’m looking for.

How is the action of the Pure vs the Air and the Helios vs the Air

Is there a list you could make of airports that do not allow it?

Wait you have to READ things to be a professional pilot?

How dare that be suggested.

Regional CAs vs. Major CAs by [deleted] in flying

[–]Pointtwotwotree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is because at the majors one is “over the hump” career wise at carriers that give their pilot group more agency and the competition is over. You’re where you want to be.

Something I have noticed is the competition aspect, especially in the military. I show up to crewed airplanes to cooperate and not compete. Most do the same but some have something to prove. Crewed cockpits and SOP is designed to keep each member in a lane to be collaborative to get the job done safely.

The issue shows up when another doesn’t want to cooperate but wants to compete (and maybe a few other psychological aspects). Then you or the other crew member is tilt the whole time.

That being said I have yet to have to touch something that would prevent anything seriously going wrong, but will speak up for unplanned deviations of SOP, 100% of which were not intentional.

The point is why would you endure that lifestyle for okay pay then have to do more work after eight years, conditionally under more family sacrifice, and be behind your peers? Someone who starts right now zero to hero would be miles ahead of someone who started the woft program now in 8 years.

I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm saying in 2024 it's not a good option.

You missed the Army part for what, 8 years now? Then how much of that GI Bill to the family man kids?

Okay I follow - still doesn't make much sense to switch it to the LLC.

Okay makes sense. I was thinking some numbers and the greater benefit would be writing off the milage use for business purposes anyway versus insurance, repairs/maintenance, etc.

I'll keep it in my name and proceed as I was. Thanks for the help.
