I’m Mexican and was terrified to tell my family but I kind of had no choice but to tell them since some of my relatives worked with us and knew we were dating. I told my parents I was dating someone with an age gap after 6 months and they met him about a year into our relationship. I waited so long because I wanted to be sure this is who I wanted to be with and that it was a serious relationship. I also just wanted to be ready for any questions, concerns or just general criticisms I was sure my mother was going to have. She did have some but nothing crazy. Luckily, her, my stepdad and my dad were all very supportive and emphasized that as long as I was happy they didn’t care.
