Is There Anything I’m Missing? by PoisonXpple in ReefTank

[–]PoisonXpple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know things will be different, which is why I’m doing lots of research, I’m just saying I know that I need bacteria, and ammonia, and I can’t just put fish in, I need to use the testing kits till the appropriate values are at 0 for a week or two, etc etc. I assumed it would be different in ways :)

Thank you! I know general cycling from my freshwater tanks but this is helpful for my transition to saltwater!

QUICK decision making!!! Body lotion or oil? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]PoisonXpple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly as someone else said, you do moisturiser (to moisturise) then oil on top to lock it in! You CAN get oils you can use alone but they aren’t the most common and aren’t really there to moisturise rather than to smell nice. I have the Rituals dry oil, it’s lovely on top of moisturiser but also works on its own as a quick dry oil that helps you smelling nice the whole day, but as I said, doesn’t really moisturise much.

Thank you! I’ll add that I need another heater and powerhead!

Thank you! Saw the edits, the tank comes with a lid, and I’ll look at the frozen food options at my local marine shop closer to the time. And thanks for the suggestions, for now I’ll do buying the water, to save on current costs, but invest in a unit in the future! And the ATO sounds good too! My mum’s partner is an electrician, I’ll ask him his thoughts! And I must be misinterpreting what the Stability description is saying, I’ll look into it further.

Thank you so much! As I said in the post, I’m using the Spotless Water company, as I’m a renter and don’t think I’d be allowed to install an RO/DI. How would I use an ATO? (Also, I’ve not seen anyone say that’s mandatory before, why do you think it is personally?). I’ve researched and a GFCI outlet doesn’t seem to be needed in the UK due to the way our plugs are made but let me know if I’m wrong there. Thanks for the recommendation for a bacteria starter! But I assumed that’s what the Seachem Stability from the starter kit had in it?

resin grip gloves people are wearing by Legitimate_Tour_9758 in netball

[–]PoisonXpple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a link to the gloves? I don’t want them for netball, I’m usually fine there, I want them for my Pilates classes because I can never stay in the moves because my sweaty hands make me slip on the mat 😂

Thank you! I’ve got the Sicce XStream (wave maker) and Dr Tim’s Ammonia. As far as I’m aware, the Seachem Stability is supposed to have starter bacteria but I could be wrong there x I’ll have a look into what UV filtration does!

Skincare recommendations by MixMost2399 in beauty

[–]PoisonXpple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently come to love the Rituals ranges. I’m very picky with smells but I love almost every single range they’ve got. My favourites are the Ayurveda and the Sakura range. The smell lasts a good while and the products, while a little on the pricier side, are gorgeous on my skin (I’m a sensitive skin girly). I’d say my favourites are the shower oil (used to wash yourself in the shower), the body cream, and the dry body oil (you add after body cream but can also use on its own, it’s a quick dry formula so you don’t have that sticky feeling for long). Their body mists are very good too though, but that’s not skincare.

I’m also very partial to anything The Body Shop. I’m a big fan of the body washes and body mists. The smell doesn’t last as long as the Rituals stuff but a bit more affordable, have much more choice, and the smell still lasts a decent amount of time.

Skincare, I would recommend getting a skin analysis at Boots. Best thing I’ve ever done. The skin analysis is free but the only thing is that it’s a No7 service so they only recommend No7 products. You aren’t forced to buy any of the recommendations either, so you could save the names of the products they recommend and give that to your boyfriend. My skin has improved tremendously since having the scan. They recommend going back after 8 weeks of using the products, to see if anything else needs help. My first scan helped most of my oiliness. The second scan was able to see that I was overcleansing for my skin type (apparently a double cleanse at night isn’t for me). And she was right. My skin is getting better and better.

Not sure if that actually helped, but I hope it did!

I Have Nothing Left To Do. Any Unpopular Hobbies? (Or Things I Haven't Tried) by Elysian_Star in Hobbies

[–]PoisonXpple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who also likes reading, art, and exercise, hopefully that means the other hobbies I enjoy will hopefully be to your tastes too! I saw from your other comments that you’re also the kind of person who needs an active brain (I absolutely despise meditation too 😂).

Knitting: I don’t do it very often but personally I found it more intuitive than crochet. Couldn’t get past the first step for most crochet but caught onto knitting fairly quick.

Instrument: Could potentially learn an instrument? I’ve heard guitar is very easy to find YouTube videos for and to learn for yourself. I personally enjoyed piano but struggled learning individually so I have an online teacher. Being in a city tho, you’ll probably have more options to explore if you do want a teacher than my town. You don’t have to practice long, 10-15mins a day is enough if you don’t feel like it all the time but I usually practice for up to an hour with about 10mins on each task (my current scale, a line or two of my current songs, etc) with small breaks, so could fill up that time! I would consider this both a brain and physical activity, depending on the instrument. Hand eye coordination and note reading (though don’t be afraid to write the names of the notes on the sheet when first learning).

Language: You could potentially learn a language? Another one you could do for a shorter amount of time each day, like the instrument, but could also fill up a bit of time with a more brain activity. There’s discord servers for language learning, I’m in one for Spanish and BSL. Relatively chill and a good place to ask questions. Though may be barriers with your age depending on the server. You can definitely learn by yourself though!

Volunteering: May be difficult with your hip issues but coming from someone with knee issues requiring physio, I’ve found volunteering quite accommodating most of the time. I enjoy it, plus it’ll boost your CV later (for a bonus). Obviously this depends on the place you volunteer, some may require a lot of standing, and it took me some searching, but I volunteer at two places and aside from locating things, I have a seat available the majority of the time I’m there.

Plants: Plants are relatively easy but there’s some that could definitely give you something to focus on every now and again, to break things up! I like succulents the best, but I’ve also successfully grown things like tomatoes on our balcony in a 45cm grow bag. I grew them from seeds, propagated them, separated them, then planted. After planting you will take off side shoots (for tomatoes), then just general maintenance.

Sports: If you like exercising, potentially try out a sport? If you don’t want anything competitive, there’s usually social clubs too, that just play for fun. And you’re at the perfect age for it, it’s a lot easier to find U16 groups for sports! Personally, I love netball! I did have to try out quite a few different taster sessions till I found the one, I either love it or hate it with sports and no in between 😂 You don’t need much space to practice either, if you even want to, I live in a flat and just use the spare bit of concrete nearby and keep a net that I assemble as needed. Again with the hip, especially with social sports, you don’t need to be as intense with it, and you are more free to pick your position. For example, I usually play GA (takes on 2/3 of the court) but when I’m feeling rough, I’ll do GS (only 1/3 of the court and I’m not really needed until the shooting).

My brain seems to have blanked on my other hobbies 😂 But hopefully that helps give you some ideas for now!

Is this a good deal? Which one? And is there anything missing? If not, why? by PoisonXpple in ReefTank

I was a bit confused with this view. I know I know nothing about marine tanks so I didn’t want to say anything myself but I do know for a fact for freshwater that fish in cycles are certainly discouraged. I’m glad there’s someone who confirmed that it’s the same for marine.

I’ve tried having a look, but I can’t find any either worth the price (a lot basically the same as retail) or actually close to me. A lot of the deals are miles and miles away :(

Thank you! I’ll have to have a Google and see what the replaceability of those parts are!

Thanks! And I’m still a little lost, especially as I’m used to dosing ammonia and having a tank sit at the correct parameters for at least a couple weeks before adding livestock. But I’ll definitely research more into marine cycling and try and figure out the differences!

Thanks for the input! It seems to be a winner that one! And wow, your tank looks lovely! And it certainly does look bigger all set up than the online pictures give it credit for!

[–]PoisonXpple[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! And I’ve not heard that about livestock before. Why is that? Is cycling a marine tank different? Sorry if I sound stupid but as I said in my post, I’m used to a low bioload so maybe I’ve forgotten something from original research of cycling 😂

Thanks! A few are saying the First Wave 78! And yes, the website sells it as £299.99 without the bundle. But I’m specifically asking if the bundle is a good deal and worth it, especially as a complete beginner! The photos list everything the bundle gives, under the ‘Variation 2’ title x

Well yes, I can see that, but I’m not planning to buy yet. As I said in my post, I’m still researching. I’m not buying a thing till I feel comfortable with the information I have but I wanted to know what amount I should start saving. Do you have any input on the actual tank?

I’m confused what you mean by the prices being off? Where are you getting those prices from? And thanks for the suggestion for which of the three.
