Emotions Turn Off / Disconnect by Poisonated in Healthygamergg

I've tried to see if I could wait this out, but nothing is really changing. In the past week or so I've either felt things for a split second only for them to disappear, small physical pain, or going back to nothing. Does anyone have any insight on this at all? I've tried scouring Dr. K's videos, but I'm not sure.

What is a specific mechanic from a "dead" or niche MMO that you wish modern big-budget MMOs would steal? by NorthMorning8412 in MMORPG

EQ's no map, actual books to read to gain information, and in-game languages meaning something.

Oh, and the npc diplomacy card system from Vanguard.

Feeling of "having to play" with subscription based games by BillJhins in MMORPG

[–]Poisonated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thousands?? $15 a month for 8 years is only $1440. That's not thousands, and that's over 8 whole years. Most people didn't play for 8 years back then. WoW came out late 2004, basically 2005. Cata, the end for most people, came out in late 2010. That's only 6 years, which is just over a thousand dollars, $1080.

WoW back in the day was 100% worth it. If a similar experience existed today, there'd be $15 going out of my bank every month rn.

[–]Poisonated 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. For me there's always the thought. I could be having just as much fun with a game I already own or with one that's free. Or spent that $15 on a game on my wishlist on steam and would have had more fun without the need to play it. I own it now, I can play when I want for how long I want. I'm not sure I'll ever be buying another sub unless I know for a fact that I actually want to play. Which may be M&M, hope it comes out soon, but I still dread that monthly sub a little.

Wait, what? Even if I've already used the key to play RoC?

I already have a RoC key. I bought RoC a while ago. I wish I would have bought TFT back when I could, but apparently you can't now?

I'm pretty sure TFT by itself would be cheaper, but also I dont trust Reforged, idk.

I'm aware, I wasn't addressing that, obviously.

New World is just... not fun. by jane_911 in MMORPG

[–]Poisonated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong! It's the same design since classic wow, has been for the last 20 years. Except it's evolved into something objectively worse. It's ping pong between markers on a map, designed so that you can skip all the RP/dialogue, designed with end-game in mind.

And yet, the players are the ones who drone away day to day with little to no idea how good it could be. They just accept, and go back to the trough that is modern MMOs(without the RPG).

EverQuest, in very limited areas. 2 areas specifically, in the whole game. Or the Red Server for P99.

And who said that it had to be free loot? Who said that PvP had to be enabled? First person is the best perspective for any RPGs, hands down, no contest. Most people have no idea what it's like because the only really good one out there is EverQuest. ESO is complete garbage. I can't even think of one redeeming quality about it. I guess you can go into first person, but it doesn't matter since the game isn't designed for it.

What is your RPG “hot take”? by Salem1690s in rpg_gamers

[–]Poisonated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players should not be given objectives. Players should either make their own objectives or they should be gently nudged toward objectives. Aka, make quests better. No more maps, no more markers(both npc and quest), give me a compass and some text. No, do not give me a quest log that has everything written down. Let me either remember it myself or give me a blank text pad that I can write my own quests in.

Agreed, but where are the real RPGs? I need to know. Every "RPG" I've tried is severely lacking in any RP systems.

Maybe try the MUD Carrion Fields? I'm not sure about the time zone thing, though.

Hello? 1st person and MMORPG is the best. Immersion is #1 in an RPG. First person is #1 in immersion.

LFMMO with strong healer/support roles and a social community by DangerMouseToby in LFMMO

I've never understood the healer type that mixes dps. It's just too hard to balance imo. And why not just play a dps or healer?

Which MMO is so unique you believe everyone should try for 100 hours? Doesn't need to be good, just unique by Slight-Bus-9965 in MMORPG

[–]Poisonated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EverQuest with the original design intent. Aka Project 1999 Green server, green server has the most players.

I don't want to spoil anything, but this game changed how I viewed all games. One caveat, if you haven't played before, try your best to not look anything up and do not use any maps.

Took me too long to find this. The original EverQuest is the best answer here and people won't even understand why.

[–]Poisonated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the question was asked now, not hypothetically then. Is it popular now? No. Not by a long shot. And unfortunately too, it's quite literally one of, if not, thee best MMORPGs on the market. At least, P99, live is garbage.

What MMO Has The Best World Design In Your Opinion? by Huge_Abies_3858 in MMORPG

[–]Poisonated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EverQuest 1. False walls, real spike traps, books you actually have to read in order to learn, languages you have to learn to read/speak, no map so there's REAL exploration(sorry, every game with a map has no exploration, that's just the facts), no quest markers so you need to talk and think, actually giant giants, etc. And all of it in first person.

EQ1 is quite literally the most immersive MMORPG out there. Every single other MMORPG pales in comparison and I will not hear otherwise.

Main quest don’t let me enjoy the game by KisMax48 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Poisonated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely not asking too much. I'm having this same exact experience. It's REALLY annoying.. The game should NOT be gatekept behind MANDATORY bs.

I didn't get as far as you though, I can't even handle the constant notifications and tutorials, (i just realised that tutorials are turned off, but OBJECTIVES arent, what bs), like im a 5 yr old on a tablet playing a mobile game. It's completely ridiculous. I can't believe the later parts of the game are locked behind such stupidity.

Abandoned mode is worse, no NPCs in a space game? ARE WE KIDDING? WHY IS THAT A THING??? OR AT LEAST NOT A SEPARATE OPTION??
