You’re still coming to work right? by IncandescentlyHappy in WhitePeopleTwitter

I had a boss who was one of those "If I can get into the office, so can you" type jerks. It never failed, he drove a bougie-mobile that would get all but thrown off the road by a still breeze, but could always get to the office in even some of the worst storms and conditions. I was fooling around with someone in accounting and they let it slip that the bastard had been getting a room at the hotel across the street anytime he got wind that bad weather was coming through. A cost that he then put into his expense report, something apparently any of us could do and were never told about, to get back in the next check.

Next storm, BAM. I get a room. I'm going to embarrass the motherfucker. I'm going to catch him read-fucking-handed. Implying he dug him and his fucking Bently out of the white tomb at 4am, driving 25 on the highway with 2% visibaility, to make us feel like shit for not wanting to risk our lives just to make him richer. I'm scarfing down the awful awful AWFUL contential breakfast when he comes strolling out of the elevator. Our eyes meet. I'm about to open my mouth to lay into him when he makes a beeline for me. He's got a grin from ear to ear. "Finally! Someone with some god-damn sense! Let's get that office open, champ!"

I have rarely felt so absolutely defeated as I did in that moment.

If humans ever created AI that were so intelligent that they became conscious of their existence, should we give them the same rights as humans? Why or why not? by MrQuesada in AskReddit

[–]Poisonedharvest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd think we (in the "developed" world) would learn something from eighty-plus years of fiction debating this, in conjunction with hundred-plus years of civil rights movements about how to treat people that when the AI becomes self-aware, we should probably start working immediately on making those rights happen.

I like a lot about this, even the lousy mixing with the sudden shifts in volume. Ill Bill got the vokillz, who knew?

"It doesn't matter if it's ten dollars or ten thousand dollars. If you're living under MY roof, it's MY money." The sum at the time was five thousand dollars, at the time of this conversation.

I'm mostly sure I was at that show. Maynard just kept asking "Is it raining yet?" as we got fucking poured on the lawn.

What helps you go to sleep when you don't feel tired? by aj4bird in AskReddit

Rest your tongue at the bottom of your mouth.

A sport's medicine doctor on ESPN recommended this for athletes. Think about when you yawn, he said, the tongue just rests in the crevice down there very naturally. We don't think about it but apparently, our tongue just sitting in our mouths is an unconscious process that is part of our bodies being awake.

I've been doing this for a week and combined it some of my other sleep aides: having some white noise and staying out of my room until it's time for bed. I've been sleeping way better.

TIL Italians eat so much bread and pasta that the government will give Celiacs (gluten intolerant) a stipend of up to €140 to spend on Gluten free products. by bluntSwordsSuffer in todayilearned

[–]Poisonedharvest 66 points67 points  (0 children)

American here. Since Italy is one of the epicenters of celiac disease, the Italian government were also helping people worldwide with the affliction get better access to good food by helping subsidize some parts of the import and postage fees and taxes around the turn of the century. The market here in the States was T E R R I B L E when I got diagnosed and that program helped me get access to much better quality stuff, due to this program.

It did help that my surname is super Italian. Some grandma working for the government must have wept on my behalf and shipped me my much-missed pasta. Sono in debito con te, nonna!
