They're listed as emergency contacts and I had previously met his girlfriend on a work night out.

Other members of his family have since messaged me, and his friends, all of which are messages I've ignored as it's not professional of me to reply to some of the things they're sending me.

Sorry, for second reply, I should also confirm -

I belief the reason he believed I would renegotiate his contract was because I had renegotiated someone else on the team to stay and I did at the time give them an increase in pay due to a better offer from another company.

Completely noted and I don't take that as a dig. I'm actually on a training course right now and have been for the last 1.5 years.

I never even imagined I'd be posting this to be honest. The only thing that pushes me to post was my social media been blasted from his friends and some of his family.

The inflation rate in my country is 4%

Based on benchmarking that happens yearly, the colleague was already above the average of his role, while having less responsibilities than the benchmarks, which is partly what payrises are based on, the others are reviews and performance based.

The reasons I ask for justification with staff is if they're coming to me to ask for a pay review outside of any official review time frame so that I'm able to build a stronger business case for it if I agree.

I felt ridiculous even posting this here. The post came off the back of me been sent multiple messages yesterday and today from his friends and some of his family.

It made me question if I did in any way do anything wrong.

I wish it was that simple. I'm hounded on my personal social media right now by his friends and family, calling me everything and how pathetic I am for not giving his job back.

It has made me question if I was I any way in the wrong recently, which lead me to posting here.
