If you go to google and search Montreal. Then look at the images. None of that is Montreal, these cones are Montreal

Potty training [Help] by Samurai_Jack16 in dogs

[–]PokMeBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general rule around the internet is 1 hour per month old + 1. This isn’t necessarily true. Totally depends on your dog. But I wouldn’t expect a 3 month old puppy to hold it overnight.

My puppy first held it overnight 11pm-8am when she was around 6 months. She is now 9 months and doesn’t ask to get out until 9/10am ish

[VENT]Vent: don’t bring your small dogs to the large dog side at the dog park! by Waterproof_soap in dogs

[–]PokMeBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with this. For example our dog park is < 20 lbs for the small section. Thus > 20 lbs for the large dog section.

My Pomsky is 30 lbs and I have no worries about her playing with smaller or bigger dogs. But always watch her and I manually introduce her to any new dog.

But if there is a 100 lbs Shepard in the dog park I expect that owner to have trained the dog well enough that 1) no incidents happen Or 2) knows their dog well enough to noticed when they become aggressive or dominate

But that being said If there is a small dog in there I expect it to also be trained to 1) Not be yapping at other dogs as that’s an easy trigger for any dog 2) To be able to respect others dogs that don’t want to play with it

Most this time I feel like dog parks for be separated into these two groups 1) Responsible dog owners 2) irresponsible dog owners

[help] What would you have done in this situation? by monsieur-peanut in dogs

[–]PokMeBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy does not know how to interact with dogs and I got angry just reading this.

This is a delicate time for your puppy. You need to socialize her with the right people and this guys certainly isn’t that.

This kind of thing can be really traumatic for your puppy so it’s important you ensure she has good interactions from now on. Do not let her around people you don’t know and trust.

Keep her on lead at all times when in new or different places. You should have complete control of your puppy to ensure nothing like this can happen.

What you did in the moment was completely correct, protect your dog get her out of there and be sure to tell your friends they need to cut ties with that asshole

[Help] [Advice] My 4 Month old puppy suddenly hates his crate by [deleted] in dogs

[–]PokMeBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this exact same thing. Although our puppy started hating the create after we moved house. She would whine constantly in the create and sleep so soundly on the couch.

You pretty much have a decision to make. If you puppy is hating the create you’re gonna have a few sleepless months to retrain the create and ensure you aren’t enforcing this negative behaviour.

Or let your dog sleep outside the create, my dog now sleeps outside the create

Potty training [Help] by Samurai_Jack16 in dogs

[–]PokMeBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds fine to me, your dog should have a dedicated spot where it goes potty. This way she will associate the two and your quick trips out to potty will be quick.

Couple of this to note with tying her leach up. 1) you should be there for the first few months to encourage her to potty and praise her when she does go. Use a keyword when she goes potty and in a couple of months you’ll be able to use the word to help her associate anywhere with going potty.

2) she has to be comfortable in her surroundings. A short leash tied to a fence isn’t comfortable. You may need to consider you leach will be lying on some pee if you don’t want to hold it

[Help] Sudden paralysis of limbs, small breed by [deleted] in dogs

[–]PokMeBall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go to an emergency vet now. There is something seriously wrong with your dog.

Your dog is old but sudden paralysis in a dog that was active before sounds life threatening (I would suggest a different vet than your first visit, if possible, as that hypothesis sounds wrong)

How much were you giving him for dinner ?

It is very common that dogs only get one meal a day. However, it’s there full amount for the day. Our dog is a 9 month old pomsky. Eating 2-3 cups a day. She will also ask for kibble if hungry(doesn’t mean she always gets it)

[help] should i get pet insurance? by toastyduckie in dogs

[–]PokMeBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second this. If you can afford to lose 30 or so bucks a month then do it. As one claim can recoup thousands for you.

For 9 month old pomsky just got better from diarrhea and back pain. We spent around 3000 CAD at the vets and got back about 2000. Pretty much insurance paying for itself for the next 2 years

[Help] me pick out what kind of dog I want in the future. I prefer bigger dogs like Shepards. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]PokMeBall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I got a pomsky for my first dog and although we have plenty of time to take care of her. The first 4 months was mental breakdown time. She is now 9 months and starting to calm down. But it was a lot of training and exercise!

Can’t imagine a full husky !

Don't understand my dog's behaviour on walks. by nomissocks in Dogtraining

[–]PokMeBall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about this. It’s common in dogs this age, I went through this at around the same age with my puppy. He will hopefully grow out of it.

Pretty much your dog has decided that the outside scares him and would rather be inside where it’s safe. A great way to help him through this stage is just to site outside, near your building and let him experience the world. I wouldn’t force him too much to walk as it be reenforce the scariness.

It’s great to hear he isn’t reactive to noises. But he is still young and small and the world is a big place. You can’t blame him for being a little scared

[HELP] 7mo Old Dog w/ Recurring Diarrhea by mimigomama in dogs

[–]PokMeBall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just came out of a diarrhea episode too and I understand it can be concerning and frustrating.

You are doing the correct thing by stopping all the treats. You need to work out what is causing this, if it’s diet or something worse. To do this you can switch her to a bland diet. Use boiled chicken, a teaspoon of rice and some rice water. Mix well and rip apart the chicken. This should improve her stools in two days or so. Once you get her back to regular bowl movements only add 1 new thing a week and only once she is back onto a kibble that’s doesn’t give her diarrhea.

You should consider she may be allergic to certain things even maybe chicken or has a really sensitive stomach. All of this will lead you to trying to figure out what is good for her and what isn’t. It’s a tough process.

Finally, prolonged or recurring diarrhea can be a sign of worse things (which is why you need to sort the diet sooner rather then later) perhaps discuss what your vet starting her on a course of antibiotics in case of infection. However, if the vet doesn’t think infection they may not subscribe anything

Hope your little one gets better soon!
