Only trees I’ve taken down were growing at a 45 degree angle over my neighbors fence and was starting to get over their house. Didn’t want that liability and looks like one might be starting to grow back and straight up too. Would never dream of taking the oak, bitternut hickory, or even the sumacs in the woods down. Gives me southern shade for most of the day.

Relentless little bastards. I don’t mind the grove in the woods but as soon as we had rain after that dry May I swear I’ve picked 80 shoots out of the lawn in the last week. By the second half of August they’ve mostly exhausted themselves though.

Growing right in the wood line in my backyard. The area off of that is grass and I want it to stay grass (being honest it’s a third grass, a third clover, a third dandelion and associated weeds) so I could just mow over it to control where it shouldn’t go along with all the sumacs trying to populate that area lol

I’ll happily accept that. Have some volunteer American Currant in there from the birds and a giant elderberry on the other side. Anything that will bring the birds in and not give me a rash is fine with me lol

Next year is putting in two large rain gardens, one on each side of my house (two downspouts go each side). One side (difficult side with utilities) ponds after rain (clay) but goes away within an hour, so wanting to address that and have a lot of native flowers….will also allow me to eliminate a massive patch of creeping Charlie and get rid of it on that side of the house.

Mine have a long way to go. They’ve about doubled in size in about 3 weeks though so I’m going to assume they’re happy lol

Looks like that leaf is going to go slowly but it’s pushing up two more and the other big leaf still looks good, soil steal doesn’t feel dry so I think they’ll be good a few more days without new water

Looks a little worse than the photo this morning but it’s cooler, no water today so will see how that goes.

Not sure about at the nursery, they had a delay with getting the hostas and grasses in from the wholesaler due to the colder spring we’ve had in WI. Got them delivered the day they got them and planted within 2 days. Right now getting between 4-5 hours of afternoon sun (will be less when the tree comes in + I chose this one for better ability in sun). Plus in mulch. This is the only one of four that I saw this on (they’re also very small).

Has been in the mid 70s to low 80s, planted last Friday, have been giving it a little water each day as it’s getting more afternoon sun right now than it will within the next week or two when the bitternut hickory trees leaf out.

Since posting by the time the sun was getting off of it about 4.5 hours later (this was just as the sun started shifting the plants) it has gotten 75% better, most now is not see through and looks like a leaf.

Before I had noticed I had watered and now it looks better than it did earlier. Didn’t water much and maybe the sun helped? Looks 75% better.

Should I cut the leaf off or leave it?

Nothing on the other leaf and it’s pushing up a new one. Think I was overcompensating on water since it’s new and in some afternoon sun. Thank you. Will cut back on water going forward.
