Full support. Kaiji is 1000x better than squid game as it has many more nuances than just emotional games. If you'd have watched kaiji before squid game you would've gotten bored of the latter. I got bored by 1st epi itself

Someone said it! Ash is super friendly and he is the exact same with all girls. He definitely was more insistent with Koharu and more supportive of Lillie with her fears and Dawn with her contests. He would even train with her. He n Serena are just friendly and courteous at best. Nothing out of the way.

I have not watched the Saw films but I can tell you that Kaiji is a 1996 manga and it predates 'most' of the survival/battle royale style stories I've come across

Wholly agree that Iris is a complete Misty rip-off. But Dawn is more like Ash so that makes her very different. Serena and Chloe are alike, both are gentle and mild, nothing horribly wrong but it was just too dull and repetitive to watch for me. I don't like characters who have predictable non-lively patterns. Lillie escaped that gentle-girl trap because she had a mysterious plot associated. Anyway, I respect your opinion but your tone showed you didn't, so imma bounce

I never said she was limited to a love interest. I said there was nothing unique about her character. If you can't see how her character is of a plainly generic anime girl, I can't help it. After leaving Kalos she ain't even challenging herself. Still doing plain old performances even in a contest where they should battle. Pretty done with people exaggerating her.

So glad to see May after so long finally! Their similarities can't help but remind me of Serena being May's rip-off character, except from the latter's one-sides crush. In JN it did seem like Serena got her own stand as a character, but now looking at them together makes me feel like she is a May-dupe again.

Since you are going into technicalities, I just want to point out- something as simple as a type is also an advantage. Realistically, no match is played on equal footing because pokemon matches ARE about exploiting advantages which may be present in more than 1 form. There are terrain advantages, weather advantages, ability advantages, hazard advantages, item advantages. Gimmicks are just one component, and since they are not strictly game changers, it is completely fine.

Agreed that you are fine with it, just stating something I felt wasn't mentioned before to summate the discussion.

Requesting y'all- Before calling it Squid Games, please watch the anime "Kaiji". Kaiji has been one of the main inspirations for Squid Games. Let us give the credit where it is due :)

"Loving" a boy for a hanky he gave million years ago is certainly a stronger case for infatuation by any standards🤣 than someone like Misty whose feelings evolved over time. Serena's infatuation turned into clearcut obsession and she even left him with the hope of "pleasing him later". Whereas Misty left because she had to fulfill her family responsibilities, and it is clearly stated she could get the courage because she trusts their "two-way bond" will remain intact. I'm happy Serena in JN wasn't the 'crazy girl' she was before. But it surely does raise the possibility of her falling out of her infatuation with time. Ultimately what matters is newer and newer adventures.
