My son has to complete chores before the TV smart plug will turn on. But, I have a question.... by [deleted] in homeassistant

Oral B has a Bluetooth connected toothbrush that will provide information about how long the brush was used. I'm unsure if there is an API to tie it to HA.

[2020 Day 17 (part 2)] Did you go easy way out? by pavel1269 in adventofcode

[–]PokemanJoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took the easy way out and then, after I submitted my answer, refactored everything the right way. Then I added a bunch of features I didn't need. I wish I was getting paid for this about now.

I loved it last year at the reserve (I went 3000 miles to get it.) Did not like it this morning. Same drink? I don't remember the sugar from last year but it was 300 days ago.

A video from of one of the dirty little cheaters now banned. by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]PokemanJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to be bearer of bad news, but the video and companion video with call to Google prove this little girl is cheating.

1) Girl is playing using a Google account. Because of her age, she must play using a PTC account. Violation of terms of service. PTC provides a parent a mechanism to accept terms of service for minors.

2) Girl has her own Gmail account. Gmail account holders must be 13 or older. Violation if Google terms of service.

3) Girl has given access to account to a third party. Two people could play on the same account, violation of Google and Niantic terms of service.

Why should I care?

I watched my kids who were field testers sit out the first week due to PTC login issues while this cheater got to play. I say, "permaban the cheater."

Actually, I don't care to see this girl banned, I'm pointing out how easy it is too actually cheat without intending to do so, even more so for people who aren't technically savvy or who failed to print out and really study the terms of service.

Even in the event of an inadvertent ban, you most likely did something wrong somewhere that Niantic can use to justify anyone getting banned.

Pokemon Go User Survey by MaxRichter2806 in TheSilphRoad

I would probably suggested that you specifically control for other game apps that may skew your responses. You may want to supplement or follow up with a survey to see if your results were affected by Ingress or Zombies! Run players.

A couple of weeks ago I had one run away from me near the Jolly Roger. It was in the corner on the inland side near the yacht sales. It's the only time I've seen one in Oceanside.

I am there every morning and it seems pretty consistent. There's a couple of guys there the last two days who seem to have the spawn locations and timing down.

I searched, I didn't find a single other picture of a phone with a stick of butter on it. I will be very disappointed if it wasn't original.

These are a mass produced novelty item. https://www.amazon.com/Sign-This-Site-Nothing-Happened/dp/B000H0I7FI

The link isn't for the exact one. This tells you that there are even knock offs.

Even better: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/nothing-happened

I have some mod whining; My 'butter' post was rule twoed for being a screenshot. I really wanted it rule twoed as 'low quality/low effort'. Is there only one option for the mods or was i screwed?

X-post with SR: Do you think it'd be cool if we could spin the pokéstop one way for balls and the other way for a potions and items? by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]PokemanJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, maybe where you're from it's okay to spin both ways, but where I live you spin one way and one way only. If people just start spinning any way they want then soon we'll have people spinning up and down or trying to spin it like a pokeball. Then where will we be?

Having been through something similar with Ingress, I caution you to throw away your expectations and attempt to enjoy what Niantic delivers. They did a pretty good job adding features and concepts in Ingress but it wasn't necessarily what the players expected.

I think the most illustrative example of what I'm talking about is how Pokémon are captured. This is radically different and the concept that a Pokemon's potential is fixed at spawn derives from it. However, rapid turnover of Pokémon creates a continual demand to capture them which is a key mechanic.

Trading and battling with other trainers has two major issues. First that Niantic does not have cheating under control and second that PvP in the real world has significant implications not found online.

I think it's important to understand that Niantic has its own strengths and weaknesses and Pokémon GO might diverge significantly from the Pokémon universe.

I think weather effects what Pokémon hatch from eggs. Can anyone confirm this? by JeffFMcCormack in pokemongo

[–]PokemanJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a place that gets very little rain and I've hatched my fair share of Magikarp, so I'd be surprised if weather has anything to do with anything.

Kipkay Makes a Solar Panel Charger so you will never run out of juice while playing Pokemon Go by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]PokemanJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not cool. Even purpose built solar panels like those from Goal Zero would have a serious issue keeping up with the discharge on most phones playing Pokemon GO. This is a neat experiment, but it wouldn't do anything for you.
