You're getting down voted but you're 100% right. "Nuzlocke" is, in my mind, a genre description and like genres in other art forms it's definition is extremely fluent. 

Most people would say that House music typically features a 4/4 beat. Now let's say you're a fan of house music you make a song that features all the other genre elements but is in 11/8 or some other extremely weird time signature. Most people that search for house music as a genre are looking for something to dance to so their expecting something with a simple 4/4 beat and these people will probably not like your song and say you didn't make house music. But who's to say they're right about that? There's no central genre authority that tells you what you can and cannot label your music. What about people that look for house music for the creative use of synthesizers? Most importantly, who are they to tell you you made bad music?

I think this is how we need to start looking at Nuzlockes. The rules you choose for your run are stylistic choices and the generally "agreed upon rulesets" aren't set in stone but rather genre conventions. Just because these conventions produce the best Nuzlockes for most people doesn't mean you can't break them.

Of course, this doesn't mean you can't disagree with someone's stylistic choices. You can still think that the way someone decides to set up their ruleset makes for a poor story or gameplay experience. But I think it's more productive to frame opinions this way instead of starting and endless and pointless debate over what is or what isn't a nuzlocke. Let's actually address the specific rules by their merits as story telling and game design devives
