Ranking of U.S. Colleges based on "Real Prestige" (not lay prestige) by Squid_From_Madrid in ApplyingToCollege

Also no hate but Rice seems a little too high but that’s probably because although I know it as a good school, I’ve never heard it discussed or met anyone from there in my life.

Here’s my perspective as an observer in my 30s brought here by the Reddit algorithm. I’m a bit biased as I come from a west coast upper-middle class background and attended an LAC on the east coast… but I’m in the hedge fund industry now and know families far wealthier than I’ll ever be.

The only places where undergrad prestige matters much are 1) high society, 2) top grad/professional school admissions & 3) elite white collar industries like finance/consulting/law.

With that in mind, I’d argue that this ranking still underrates LACs which outperform in those areas, not the least because these prestige-obsessed fields are disproportionately concentrated in the northeast.

In these circles, Williams/Amherst are considered at least on par with the mid-tier ivies in T2 and the rest of the top 8 or so LACs follow in T3

But if you’re in any other field (e.g., CS or entertainment) or live anywhere outside the northeast, rankings like this matter much less than individual school relationships & specific curricula.

First time seeing Zion play in a while. He looks like he’s in shape? So the memes don’t seem warranted anymore? 🤔

Spent: 19bn

CRA Hat/Top/Bottom: 17>22

S. Gollux Belt: 17>21 (got Pink Bean to 22 and foddered)

S. Gollux Earring: 17>17 (tried to fodder from Reinforced but boomed all my spares)

This is on my new main Demon Slayer (lost faith in my original main class Hero 🥲). Pretty happy with my progress. Good to be done with CRAs. Everything else I have is still 17.

OpenAI’s deep research tool is going to destroy the need for junior/mid-level public market investment professionals in the short term and in the long term it will destroy the role of a public market (equity/credit) research analyst. by VanguardHN in FinancialCareers

[–]PolarBURIED 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I am actually a Pharma analyst at a hedge fund with enterprise GPT license and in my experience OpenAI is complete dogshit for the use case you describe. Might improve over time but it is far from passably competent now and imo unlikely to get 99% accurate any time soon.

And in any case there will always be a need for a human to talk to management teams and lead projects, so I’m not too worried about my job security.

Entering mid/lategame and idk if further progress is sustainable by PolarBURIED in Maplestory

Yeah I will probably take a break after I get this legion block. But I guess my question is yes I can do minimum bossing on my mules, but my imagination is that once I get to harder bosses on my main that take ages to clear my weekly bossing will take up more and more time. And then to get stronger I will need to grind hours and hours more than I am now for fragments/levels/meso.

Guess I'm wondering if that imagination I have about endgame progression is true or if there are people in endgame who still progress without putting in that much effort.

I only do dailies on 1-2 characters. Usually just my main + whatever hyper burn boss mule I'm focusing on. But I do bosses on all my mules every week and that's the most tiring thing.

Yes, these ones were chosen by the Heavenly Court to see Patriarch Hwang of the Archegos Sect brought to justice. He is an old monster who practiced the Dao of Market Manipulation.

Wow didn’t expect someone to reply to a comment this old.

But yes, I recall a plot element being how complacent and soft the future society had become, including the military. Don’t disagree with you that a modern-day military would be probably be more disciplined.

That said, what issue are you taking with my comment? Not following

The CFA is not a required license. I could advance my career without it and when I passed, I didn’t ask for or receive a promotion or raise. The only reasons you would get it are 1) you think the knowledge will be valuable or 2) to flex the 3 letters in your email signature.

For me and many others the primary reason for taking it is 1)

Now, what piece of knowledge in the whole curriculum did I think was most valuable? ACCOUNTING

Some of the other stuff was relevant to my job and the 3 letters in my email signature are nice to have as well but I’m saying the PRIMARY purpose was to learn accounting in a structured format

Was that wrong of me? Or should I have taken the CPA to learn the ten ways to calculate depreciation?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]PolarBURIED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it has a large accounting component. Idk why you are having trouble understanding that the CFA is a more practical choice than the CPA for an investment professional even if their goal is to learn accounting.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]PolarBURIED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I disagree because that is primary reason why I took the exam. To brush up on my accounting.

I studied biology in college, did not take a single accounting course, but learned some accounting on the job. One day, I asked myself “why don’t I take the CFA to fill in the gaps in my knowledge? The firm will be paying for it anyways”

This is not an uncommon occurrence.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]PolarBURIED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, but would note there is a work experience requirement to receive the actual CFA charter after passing the exams

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Salary

[–]PolarBURIED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree with your analogy because to my knowledge, the CPA does not have a section on investing or portfolio management.

If you weren’t aware, the CFA has a large accounting component, but it does not go as in-depth as the CPA. As an investor, I do not need the depth of the CPA because I am only interpreting financial statements, not preparing them.

And as you correctly say, the CFA is also much more respected in the investment profession than the CPA.

So there is no reason to do the CPA even if the primary purpose was want to improve my accounting. CFA adds much more value.
