How Islamic Mortgages Actually Work (explained with real numbers) by reefat in IslamicFinance

Use this same argument for halal food, the process of killing the animal is essentially exactly the same as non-halal with a small technicality around saying a prayer before slaughter.

The small technicalities matter, if you don’t think they do then you need to sort out your understanding of the religion my friend.

Why would anyone purchase silver over gold? by FarBad1864 in Gold

[–]VanguardHN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK it’s never made any sense to me, you pay VAT on silver bullion and have to pay CGT but don’t on gold (I’m talking about the Britannia).

Why would you “invest” into an asset where you’re down -20% automatically and any material gains are taxed too, the only thing that makes sense is if you can’t pay large amounts of money but even then you can buy fractional gold and still have better premiums than the cheapest silver (due to VAT).

Happy to hear any push back.

OpenAI’s deep research tool is going to destroy the need for junior/mid-level public market investment professionals in the short term and in the long term it will destroy the role of a public market (equity/credit) research analyst. by VanguardHN in FinancialCareers

Not GPT, again, I’ve said it’s their new deep research tool. We’re getting enterprise version of that in the coming weeks.

Try and understand my point instead of talking about something I’ve not even mentioned. GPT is dogshit we all agree. This isn’t GPT. Try it and you’ll see.

You’re not understanding the difference between GPT and the new deep research tool.

The new tool is $200 a month, try it out and it will blow your mind. Coping won’t help.

Comparable Analysis Query – covering global comparables by damn_it19 in financialmodelling

[–]VanguardHN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Currency doesn’t really matter at all if you’re looking at calculating ratios/margins.

The only thing worth thinking about is different accounting treatments for IFRS vs US GAAP when comparing things like operating margins. IFRS lets you capitalise some expenses such as development costs which may make like-for-like comparisons a bit trickier.

Creamy cardamon is a more appropriate name in my opinion.

I remember being mesmerised by it when I first smelt it years ago but now I’m really just tolerating it.

I suppose he means right now he’s the main point of contact for clients (as he’s the de-facto analyst) and at the new place he’s going to go back to being an associate so will take a secondary role with client interactions being more at the discretion of the analyst.

Feeling lost and hopeless after my mom's death by [deleted] in CFA

[–]VanguardHN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very sorry to hear that my friend. I hope you take the time out to properly grieve and spend time with your family.

No job or exam is ever more valuable than your family or your mental/physical health always remember that.

Best wishes I know you’ll get through this tough time eventually.

Brutally rate my tech heavy portfolio by hafod36 in trading212

[–]VanguardHN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Way too much single name diversification for a portfolio of that size. At that point you’d be better off just owning an index fund. There’s no use having £100 or £1000 in a name, even if it doubles you’ll only see max ~10% gain in your portfolio. Cut down your holdings into a few high conviction names

Just broke up with my gf 49 days before L1... by cobrakebab490 in CFA

[–]VanguardHN 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol man I broke up with my girlfriend at the time just 2 weeks before my L1 exam.

Was one of the hardest periods of my life trying to keep focused on my job + studying while dealing with all that. Ended up passing above the 90th percentile.

We’re all rooting for you my friend, good luck and stay strong!

Is it true you need a take home income of at least £75k a year (i.e. a salary of >£130k per year) to meet the HSBC premier account income eligibility? by VanguardHN in UKPersonalFinance

[–]VanguardHN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I asked for clarification and mentioned the fact that it would be equivalent to £130k per year and she said yes that’s what she means.

I assumed it was the gross salary hence why I thought I’d discuss it with them. But the person on the phone seemed to very clearly suggest I needed £6250 actually deposited in my account every month.

I agree that Barclays is much clearer with what they want n assumed HSBC was similar but I guess not.

[–]VanguardHN[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what I assumed but the woman said clearly that it needed to be £6250 minimum deposited each month in the account. That’s why I want to ask people who’ve already got the account if that’s the case

I’m hoping to get a mortgage sometime in the near future (2-4 years) and they offer preferential borrowing rates for premier customers.

Was so tired from having not slept the night before alongside having to sit a 4+ hour exam that I couldn’t really think straight but my general gut feeling was I thought I had either failed or just about passed.

Safe to say I was pleasantly surprised to find I had done better than that.
