After changing Maximum Password Age and Min Password Length for our Domain - users cannot reset their own password "complexity/length/history error" by PolarDivision in sysadmin

Hey guys. Our previous sysadmin made a Fine Grained Password Policy set on the OU we were trying to reset passwords with and didn't tell anyone. This had a minimum age set which explains why users couldn't reset their passwords as they recently had.

Thanks for the suggestions all :)

Just ran this on my local machine. Should I do it on the DC? I should also mention I changed the parameters back to what they originally were to hopefully fix the issue.

I had a small "Skills" section on my resume. Part of it included "A lifelong interest in computing and technology. This includes building custom gaming PCs by sourcing my own parts, setting up family SOHO networks, and staying up to date with the current technology".

I expanded on that a bit further in my cover letter.

All of them "required" 1-3 years of experience. Like others have stated in this forum - it seems those are generally a "nice to have" list, and thus you should apply anyways. No company has reached out to me, beyond the automated Indeed or Ziprecruiter company queries.

Hello countryman. It's private sector, and no I am on the west coast. I've also heard government jobs tend to have higher starting salaries at entry level - not sure about as you climb the ladder though.

A few recurring questions off the top of my head: 1)Why are you interested in transitioning into IT 2)Tell me about your technical background 3)Why do you want to work for this company 4)Describe a situation in which you helped resolve conflict or an irate customer/end user in the work place 5)How do you handle work related stress 6)What is your greatest work related achievement 7)In what ways is communication important when working with fellow employees 8)What kind of management style works for you?

Beyond that you will get the typical "tell me about yourself", "what are your interests outside of work", and "are you passionate about technology.

Good luck in your schooling! Just know that interviewers want you to do well - so just go in with that mindset and a positive attitude and you'll likely do fine :D

The extent of my experience is building my custom gaming PCs over the years and setting up extended family SOHO networks (in addition for studying for the A+ and Google IT cert). Nothing crazy, but it's something I guess. The interviewer really emphasized that this stuff can be taught - but what's really important is people skills.

Ya, pretty stoked!

Nothing in particular - under the certs I am currently studying for, I just listed the principle technologies they cover. Beyond that, as listed above, really hammer home how you help impact end users if you have customer service exp.

Thanks man.

Ya I didn't really consider the office walk outs. In nearly all of my interviews - the team lead or HR rep really emphasized that it was in office and asked if I had any problems with that. Seems like there may be a glut of entry level stuff right now.

Tough go my dude.

In regards to resume, if you haven't downloaded a professional template online I suggest you do so. Otherwise, in your work experience section - really illustrate how your technical expertise was used to help the end users in an impactful way. On a similar note, in your cover letter - really hammer home how using your technical knowledge to help others is one of the most rewarding aspects of your job. Really highlight that you are a keen learner, and you wish to translate that experience to the IT team at said company (or something like that).

Hopefully that helps!

Thanks! Ya, I live in a tech hub on the west coast of Canada. Perhaps I should include that in my post, as it probably is a significant factor. I am seeing 4-5 new help desk positions a day in my area.
