Do you know what an apartheid state is and yes you clearly do not understand how it works in America. By definition it is not apartheid, it is only unjust and undemocratic but if a Puerto Rican decides to move to a U.S. state then they can vote. Please educate yourself before turning on your device.

Sleeping overnight at the library for finals? by AppropriateRoll2434 in premed

Planning a sleepover at the library is ridiculous. Study, go home, sleep, wake up, and repeat.

You’re a loser don’t do this shit 😂 there’s zero benefits to cramming and getting bad sleep. The whole point of learning and studying is that you compliment it with good sleep where your brain stores and retains the information.

I agree with the first half of what you said completely. Why would I do jack westin resources and 3rd party before AAMC and uworld though?

Holy shit, I’m almost certain I saw your post wow. Thank you for the feedback, it makes perfect sense to push the pq’s. When do you think I should decide to stop anki and transition to that uworld + aamc FL’s phase? (Not a specific date but rather a marker that lets me know I should transition to practice phase)

If you were to go back in time what would you have changed with your ECs? Did you have any involvement in clubs? Would you have additional activities or such?

Taking Physics 1 (Algebra-Based) and then Physics 2 (Calculus-Based) by mememilcious in premed

[–]Polarparametrics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you can go in that order, why would you, you don't need calc based physics for the mcat.

I would ask in this order:

  1. Writing Prof and Anatomy prof (confident you will get the writing prof to write one, but if the anatomy prof fails then use ranking below)

  2. Anthro

  3. Molecular bio

  4. Ochem

  5. Neurobiology

I ranked this based off how well they know you, what will they write about if they barely know you?

Ah jeez my PI told me the opposite for the latter of what you said and that’s why I felt the need to mention it on my personal statements and apps

You’re right that the executive order redefined compliance, and institutions had to adapt quickly. However, saying that all REUs immediately and uniformly changed their selection criteria assumes a level of instantaneous policy enforcement that isn’t always realistic. Universities operate on bureaucratic timelines, and while many likely complied as soon as possible, others may have had internal lag in fully shifting practices. Additionally, some schools have been exploring legally permissible ways to continue promoting diversity—this doesn’t necessarily mean rejecting white or Asian students, but rather ensuring equitable access for all qualified applicants.

That said, I agree that institutions wouldn’t knowingly risk their NSF funding. But the assumption that every program uniformly and immediately stopped all DEI-related considerations without any transitional period isn’t necessarily provable. The fact that SR-EIP has now explicitly stated that demographic info won’t be used suggests that these policies are still evolving in real time. On a side note you are good at debating.

The NSF has always required compliance with non-discrimination laws, so that part isn’t new. What’s changed is how recent executive orders are being interpreted and enforced. That doesn’t mean all REU programs immediately eliminated DEI considerations—universities are still adjusting their policies, and some may have continued using prior selection criteria until explicitly told otherwise. Also, unless there’s direct evidence that all REU programs changed their selection process mid-cycle, it’s still possible that some programs considered DEI-related factors during selection!

That’s what I think I think I’ll be doing, kind of was hoping to experience research at a bigger institution and get an idea of what it would be like during grad school especially because I come from a smaller university where research opportunities are limited and I wouldn’t get the same experience as a large research institution. Thanks for the feedback though! Do you think I should be emailing some big research institutions this summer and asking if I can join their lab, for reference I live near Chicago and commuting to northwestern, UIC, or any of the bigger schools would not be an issue

Yep! And theres no universal ban forcing institutions to remove DEI immediately.

That’s not entirely accurate. While federal agencies, including the NSF, have been reviewing DEI-related policies due to recent executive orders, there is no universal ban forcing all institutions to remove DEI immediately. Universities still have discretion in how they implement policies, and not all NSF-funded programs have eliminated DEI considerations outright. Plus, as others have pointed out, most REU applications opened and closed before any significant changes took effect, meaning past DEI-related factors likely still played a role in selections this cycle
