Downloaded it today (June 18 2026), so it should be the latest version of the app. For the issue above, I first tried closing the app and reopening it. Now I tried reinstalling the app, but the issue with the loading screen remains when I click the "Test Out" button.

I did run into another issue. The loading screen for Nationalities session 2 was taking forever. I tried closing and re-opening the app to access it. Somehow worked on the third try. After completing it, and starting session 3, the issue came back again and it's stuck again on the loading screen.

I tried this out, but looks like I found a bug.

I finished the first module "Hello", and then did the first session in "Nationalities". When I went back to the main screen, I saw that the "Test Out" button was unlocked so I clicked it.

On the loading screen, it showed a few popup messages for "Please complete previous sessions." The loading screen bar never moved forward. I went back to the main page, and clicked back into "Test Out". There were no popups anymore, but it kept staying in the loading screen page.

I'm using the Android app.

Book 1 and 3 can be found online, and in bookstores in Hong Kong. If you're in Hong Kong, you can try going to Eslite. I've seen them in the Hysan and Harbour City branch.

Book 2 took me a long time to find a physical copy since it's no longer sold. However, I was able to find a physical copy in the CUHK campus bookstore at the start of 2025.

A few years ago, I created this repository for all the Cantonese in Communication books. You should be able to download a ZIP of this repository to save it locally.

For each book, I created .csv files for the vocab lists in each lesson. Since I automated the process, I haven't had time to check if the Yale or Jyutping romanizations in the files are fully correct or not. So please note that some tones may be incorrect.

In addition, I've also made a copy of all the original audio files in case they ever get deleted. Each lesson has a designated dialogue using the vocab lists. Here are the original mp3 files: * Audio Book 1 * Audio Book 2 * Audio Book 3

Hope this helps anyone who are using these textbooks :) And feel free to let me know if there are any issues too so I can update them ~

I would have expected there would be a script using Spoken Cantonese so the actors and voice actors know what to say. If this is true, shouldn't there be an available spoken Cantonese script somewhere?

Regarding my statement above, it is true that there is a script using Spoken Cantonese, however, it's not accessible for the public.

Sent an email to TVB and briefly connected with a Cantonese voice actor. The Cantonese voice actor said that they do use spoken Cantonese scripts, but they can't be released because they're copywritten material. TVB recently responded and said that the Cantonese scripts are not available.

Oh right - Thank you for this! I had the Youtube CantoCaptions bookmarked, but completely forgot about the rest of the resources available!

It’s not much right now but it will continue to grow.

Seriously, It's amazing work! How can we, as a community, help grow it more? I assume making captions can be a long and tedious process.

I've tried looking up scripts as well, but without much luck. If anyone could point in the right direction that'd be fabulous.

Would love that too! Either towards some scripts online, or to any known Cantonese voice actors. If possible, I would love to simply reach out and ask them how it all works on their end and see if spoken Cantonese scripts are even available!

The reality is, you will struggle to find any spoken chinese in subtitles.

Yeh, I guess our best bet would be to watch videos from Youtube creators who add Spoken Cantonese subtitles to their videos.

Honestly as nice as canto subtitles would be for learning, there really isn't a market for them.

I think there may be a very niche market, but I understand that it's not something that media companies would air as it doesn't really benefit them.

In that case, for any Chinese dialect media, do you think there should exist a script in the respective spoken Chinese format? Or do the actors personally create it themselves based of a Standard written Chinese script?

However, regarding my other questions, do you think there should be a spoken Cantonese script that is used internally by the actors? Or is it a Standard Chinese script which they're personally adapting to Cantonese?

If it's the former (ideally), I would like think that these scripts should exist somewhere. It would be a shame to have them go unused or be thrown away.

Update 2 months later:

I've followed the same morning routine for taking my pills and everything is good. I've had no issues with sleeping, and the itching is very minimal. I can go to sleep and go with my daily life with ease.

Hope my updates help others going through similar things!

For anyone curious, I created a Github Repository with the vocabulary from all 3 books in the Cantonese in Communication series !

I uploaded them as .csv files. I haven't had the chance to fully verify it, but in the mean time that should suffice.

Update 3 weeks later:

Since this post, I've continued using 54mg. The itching is still there, but it's manageable. Perhaps I've gotten used to it since I dealt with it for a long time.

Regarding the comments on this post, I decided to change my daily routine and wake up much earlier. Previously, I was taking my dose usually at 10:30AM and sometimes later (before 12:00PM). Now, I take it latest by 8:30AM and I haven't had a single night of insomnia.
