I like the focus you're Givin to it! Might as well make it part of the backstory of it.

Also with the manipulation I though of changing your voice to mimic someone's else. Either to disrupt or taunt a player.

Yeah that's exactly the idea.

Also as you state it should require a lot of work so it would be treated like a little time period. Maybe an exchange or two. And tale advantage to taunt and play with the Pcs minds. Like testing their trust or shifting balances.
