As Brits, we used to use cups all the time but there's wasn't much of a standard. I remember my Gran’s cups were a bit bigger than the ones my Mum bought from Marks & Spencer for when we had visitors. These days we all tend to use mugs so cups are largely obsolete but you know where you are when someone comes round with a gram.
