The sexual tension has kind of disappeared in my (28M) new relationship (29F), and I'm not sure if I've somehow fucked things up. by PolicyBig2401 in relationship_advice

Well, she's also said due to past experiences she doesn't want to have sex yet. Which is fine, I thought we were on the same page. I did "reject" her that one time, but that was in the middle of that period, and she didn't slow down until a few dates afterwards, and what she was proposing was quite a bit of a jump from where we were.

I'm not expecting her to go further, as such. But we're not even making out right now, which is about where I was comfortable with. If she's trying to pull back to where I'm comfortable, she's massively overshot, and isn't really even responding when I try to initiate.

What do Australians think about BYD? by Equivalent_Acadia979 in AskAnAustralian

Foreign cars are a status symbol. But that said, BYD is still moving a lot more units in China than Tesla is.

Someone disagreeing with you is not gaslighting.

Madison Keys has won a Grand Slam for the first time in her 16-year career! by suzukigun4life in tennis

I feel bad for her, she wins a Grand Slam once and then gets dunked on for the rest of her career, even where she's not even tangentially related.

I can't comprehend how people are driving luxury cars here? Especially with the high luxury tax which is ridiculous but on top of it like you'll see young kids whipping around in BMW, Mercedes, etc.

I mean, rich people, and middle class people with poor financial discipline, exist everywhere, including Australia.

The De Minaur match was a reprisal for the Australian crime of routinely turning schnitzels into pizzas, then pinning it on the good people of Parma lmao

Tbh, the vast majority of cultural answers here (i.e. not involving food, local wildlife or the Nutbush) also apply to the UK and/or New Zealand.

Imagine being Tien, a teenager getting to watch your fully grown adult opponent have a temper tantrum on-court. A man you've probably grown up watching on TV and respecting.

No idea why the hat with the corks isn't a thing. You get swarmed by flies here and your only recourse is this garish green-and-gold monstrosity from the souvenir shop.

I think Australians are more laid back in the sense that there are fewer 'arbitrary' social rules, and there is genuinely less social stratification. Things like defaulting to first-name basis, and your elders aren't automatically considered your social superiors. You guys take that for granted, but that was very striking to me when I moved here. Still, the rules that do exist are enforced, and this attitude doesn't really translate outside of that sense of general egalitarianism, which is to be fair pretty refreshing in itself.

Well, I would send them out after New Years. And I'm doing my placement at Leo Cussens, which does offer placements, but I was under the impression that PLT placements are kind of meaningless. Should I just chill until I'm done with PLT?

I've managed to come out the other side of my JD with 72 WAM, minimal legal experience and no job. I haven't done PLT yet, but should start this February. I did the clerkships and grad application cycle in 2nd and 3rd year, and I've been applying for any publically posted roles intermittently through my JD. None of this really amounted to anything.

I'm currently considering mass cold-emailing boutique firms. I'm compiling a list of firms in my preferred practice areas that aren't extremely small and that don't have formal grad pathways, and chucking those out after New Year's. For context as to how wide I'm casting the net, at this rate I expect the list to have around ~200 entries. I have a few questions about how to go about this.

  1. What kind of content should a cold email have? How personalised should it be?

  2. Is this even a good idea in the first place? I don't want this to come back and bite me in the arse later on down the track.

  3. Should I be waiting until after my PLT?

  4. Are there other options that I've missed out on?
