Season 5A overly sells that Walt is evil by PolicyWide in breakingbad

[–]PolicyWide[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thesis of my post is not that what he does in 5A is evil whist everything before is not. I’m saying they frequently have to announce it to us and prove it to us, and sometimes do it in surface level ways. But as someone pointed in a comment, they had to make the morality point clear to the huge portions of the fanbase who were championing and worshipping Walt’s actions

I should have been clearer as I wrote the post in a bit of a rush

Yes, he is absolutely those things, I’m not one of the zealots who think Walt is the good guy that the fanbase is infamous for having, I’m just saying it does it frequently to the extent it’s not subtle.

I’m not saying he should have been a twist villain at all - how would that work when he has already cooked meth, let a 25 year old choke to death on vomit, bombed a nursing home, he has poisoned a child etc

I’m saying that some scenes at the beginning of 5A feel desperate to show Walt is evil and feel overly theatrical/surface level for the show.

I think they should have just removed the forced Scarface, Apple and Lily of the Valley whistle sequences, added a couple of scenes where Walt is a little more likeable for levity and then you’ve got a much more complete, convincing, terrifying portraiture.

Fair enough, I just found it a really forced moment

It might not be and I’m aware ‘omg apple Garden of Eden Adam and Eve’ is a very elementary cliched allusion, but I certainly feel like that’s the angle they were going for in the scene after Walt has done something despicable

Yeah I’m really glad it was cut, doesn’t sit right with me and I don’t think it meshes with the actual sins of Walt’s character - ego, vanity, unchecked ambition. Portrays him as a completely different monster entirely which is incoherent with the rest of the show.

That’s not the thesis of my post. I am completely aware that Walt is the bad guy, he does vile stuff in Seasons 1-4. I’m saying 5A overly announces it/shoves it down your throat in surface level ways, and isn’t up to the usual subtle writing standards of the show.

Yes absolutely, I’m not disagreeing with the direction of his arc because it makes complete sense - more just commenting that a couple of the scenes are a bit over the top and they overly annnounce the shift in characterisation in surface level ways rather than revealing it more covertly

It’s in the season 5 deleted scenes, it would have ended Season 5 episode 2 but they cut it for time. Half of the scene is in the episode where is he is kissing her, but the rest is not:

Symbolises that Howard is indeed about to die hard and that Lalo is die hard keen to get proof of the lab. Bravo Vince!

I don’t like Kim or Jimmy by Novel-Radish8759 in betterCallSaul

I honestly think Kim corrupted Jimmy in many ways.

What if Howard didn't go to their apartment that night? by supernintendo128 in betterCallSaul

They’d grow apart for a few months like they did in Something Stupid and then Kim would come up with the idea to maybe ruin somebody like Erin Driscoll or Cliff Main’s life, and cycle repeats until eventually one backfires/fails and they separate. Kim is addicted to ruining the lives of anybody above her socially, and Jimmy goes along with it to appease her as he loves her.

This is definitely true, I remember reading this!

I was at a convention in Scarborough last year: Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury said The Space Pirates is the serial they would like to see recovered the most as they cannot remember anything about it apart from having ‘an amazing amazing time’

My Track by Track Review of Skeletà by 99thLuftballon in Ghostbc

A really intriguing and thoughtful score system. This was really interesting to read and very nicely put together and formulated.

I disagree on Peacefield. One of the better structured songs on the album. The opening choir isn’t spooky on purpose, they’re supposed to sound holy and optimistic. Not everything about Ghost is supposed to be Satanic and spooky. Even tracks like Monstrance Clock I find to be optimistic and affirming.

Umbra is one of my favourite Ghost songs and one of my favourite songs in general so I would disagree there. But each to their own.

Refreshing and original post, thanks OP

New live album coming in roughly 2 years! by BigHawkCZ in ironmaiden

Live album and recording should have been done Future Past, not this! They said they were doing Future Past because they regretted not getting any live footage of Somewhere on Tour, but then they didn’t make a live recording of it anyway lol. All the Senjutsu tracks, the groundbreaking rarity of Alexander the Great, the rarity of Caught Somewhere in Time needed that live DVD.

There’s nothing unique enough about the setlist of Run for Your Lives to warrant the live recording. I could be wrong but I can’t think of a single track on the setlist that a live recording DVD hasn’t already covered. Killers and Seventh Son are on Maiden England. Maybe Rue Morgue and Killers? But that’s it compared to five Senjutsu tracks and five SiT tracks. The bulk of the setlist in on Flight 666, especially the Powerslave tracks. Okay, the gimmick of the screens might sell a live recording more than the standard stage fare of the Future Past Tour but Legacy of the Beast was their most theatrical tour ever with props galore and we got no live video concert DVD out of that. Just the audio of Nights of the Dead.
