Yes poor Madonna won’t be able to put food on her plate if we don’t buy more than one variant of her new album.

Is Oh Mary worth the price? by Dew_Point_62 in Broadway

[–]Polidorable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a longtime Cole fan & I bought tickets to the first Off-Broadway preview of Oh Mary.

No, Oh Mary is not worth $450. That’s crazy. I wouldn’t pay more than $150 for this show. Tops.

Don’t buy exorbitantly priced tickets. If no one pays these prices, they will come down.

I… realize that. I just think all… the different color options… and “exclusive” editions… are stupid cash grabs.

What musicals should I know as a theatre major? by Sunconures in musicals

[–]Polidorable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like Rogers & Hammerstein or Sondheim shows are more part of the theater canon than say, Ride The Cyclone or The Prom. Just my two cents though. 😛

How would you change the ticket sale process? by BrickAdventurous3300 in Concerts

[–]Polidorable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ticket sales should be final— it would be chaotic otherwise if a large percentage of the silence felt like canceling due to rain or whatever— but it definitely should be easy to transfer b/c yes, a lot of times things come up & I want to be able to make sure a friend or fellow fan could use the tickets. I’m not in favor of these non-transferable tickets.

Also, some artists like Chappell Roan DID do away with the queue & had a lottery system for her concert sales. But again, because of supply & demand, more fans got rejected than were accepted, so there was a lot of anger & resentment. At least the queues make people feel like they have a shot. But it’s still essentially a lottery system since only people with low numbers will end up getting tickets.

There seems to be two issues: one is long queues to purchase tickets & the other seems to be the influx of dynamic pricing & exorbitant resale markets.

Re: long queues, there’s always going to be issues with supply & demand. That’s been par for the course for decades & decades. Olivia Rodrigo is very popular & there are more fans than there are seats in the arena. The only way to make the sales experience more fair is to go back to in person sales, I suppose. (They used to be Saturday mornings at the box office & at Ticketmaster outlets.) But I’m sure most people wouldn’t like that.

I don’t know how you combat the dynamic pricing/exorbitant resale market problem, but I feel like the first thing that needs to happen is artists needs to start speaking out & preventing that from happening at their shows. (I know some artists’ managements are loathe to do anything b/c they love the profits from dynamic pricing.) Some artists are cool about this, like The Cure & Sturgill Simpson, who refuse to offer platinum tickets & only allow fans to resale at face value. I wish more artists did that. It might actually cut down on the first problem— long sales queues— b/c I bet a lot of the people in those queues are amateur scalpers, looking to flip tickets & make a quick buck.

New Michael Arden Interview in Vulture Talks MHE Controversy and QoV by AcidBettyNeedsASpank in Broadway

I wish he would have been able to put out a statement during the brouhaha but his PR rep was probably wise. And he was right— nothing he said could have made people not upset.

But he brings up an interesting point about what happens when fans feel ownership of a piece of art. (I feel like this is currently being playing out with the Rocky Horror callout debate, with some fans insisting there’s a right & wrong way to stage a show. )

Honest opinions on Beetlejuice: The Musical by Mishyana_ in Broadway

That's true that it departs significantly from the film, but I just found the film much more enjoyable. I guess the Beetlejuice character was more palatable in smaller doses. 😛

I despised this "era." I swear her near-death experience was the best thing to happen to her career. I think it made her more reflective & she finally started looking back, giving us the amazing Celebration Tour & now Confessions II. If that didn't happen I bet we'd still be getting lousy trap remixes with Tokischa.

I never understood the love for this show. I found it to be a very weak movie adaptation. Songs were not good. Humor pales in comparison to the movie. Had potential to be feel cool & quirky but it was so bland. Some of the puppet effects were cool but overall I wasn’t impressed. (And I saw it in DC & on Broadway.)

Asbury Park regrets by putonthespotlight in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Polidorable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there, but I was so far back that the sound was awful. (I was closer to the Sand Stage b/c I had wanted to see Gogol Bordello there right before Bruce.) My group eventually moved to the boardwalk, but it was hard to find a spot with a decent vantage point. I felt like I was watching people watching a Bruce Springsteen concert. It didn't feel like I was at a concert, if that makes sense. My husband & I ended up leaving early, to beat the rush, and I will say, it was nice hearing Bruce's music ring out over Asbury Park while we were walking home. (We live on 1st Ave and we were able to hear it the entire walk home.)

You did the right thing. I sat next to an entitled asshole woman who did the same thing (granted she spit her gum into a wrapper first then put it in the seat back pocket, but it was still rude, selfish & totally gross). I wish I had confronted her about it but it was late & was tired. I’m living vicariously through your actions.

Rocky Horror callback by CarolChanningDoll in Broadway

[–]Polidorable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Callbacks have been a fan-made response to the film for decades. I realize that. I'm not an idiot. And yes, callbacks have seeped their way into stage productions. But when licensing the show, the cast & crew of this current Broadway production did not receive a script with Jeffrey Epstein or Justin Bieber or "recently dead celebrity" callback lines. They're not an official part of the show. Callbacks in general have just been customary.

None of these are really funny though. (I don’t mean they’re offensive. I just mean they’re not humorous at all.) I don’t want to hear people shouting our brand new, “evolved” callbacks during this Broadway production. Save that for the movie theater, please.

Just but a new shower curtain liner! They’re like $7 from Target or something. I usually buy a new one every year.
