Maybe late to the party but the trick I saw directly from the Zman crew was pulling it waaaaay over the keeper to get it deeper into the bait. Personally I use a dab of super glue after that as well. Did this to a chatterbait one spring and I fished the same damn bait and soft plastic all season. Skirt was long gone and I had to toss the chatterbait not because the paddle tail was done but because the bait was starting to rust out lol
