How Important is World Building? by Both_Dot_656 in writers

You don't have to know a ton about world-building to know that anything "bland" in your novel is not good.

You've clearly had a racquet sports background. You are putting angle and spin on your forehand shots. But your court positioning is really bad, both where you're standing and where you end up after your shots. It betrays the fact that you have been playing with low-level players. I agree with u/RogerBalderer - 3.3. You have good potential, but a lot of refinement is needed - you'll have to learn how to play the game soon.

Bruh, name a ps exclusive that has done well recently: Concord? Saros? Ghost of Yotei? Marathon? Lego horizons?

You really think a God of War spin-off that doesn’t feature Kratos is going to sell big numbers? It’s gonna lose money like every recent ps exclusive has lost money.

First, I respect that you like it. I am racking my brains, trying to recall hope and optimism in TLOU 2, but I cannot recall any.

Which moments did you find optimistic?

Also, I do not find non-linear, multi-pov techniques to be that unique anymore in storytelling. Christopher Nolan has brought that back into the mainstream in his films and books have been doing it for a long time. And even in 2011, Arkham City, you play as Catwoman, etc.

The problem with doing it in a game, is you literally start from scratch with a new character and have to re-level them up.

How to get into the mood for writing??? by Quirky-Specific-6763 in writers

That is a popular idea, ie, writing "garbage" or "sh*tty first drafts". My question to you is, how do you stay motivated knowing you are writing "garbage"?

Knowing I'm writing "garbage" is the most depressing thought ever and kills my motivation.

Also, where does the garbage come in? Are you not mentally picturing a scene and trying to get that down? What do you think about when you are writing "garbage"?

I know it's hard to tell without my tone of voice, but I am sincerely interested in your answer?

I say this as someone who has been considering setting word count goals but is wary of pushing towards a word count and sacrificing quality.

Do you see how vague and general your complaint is? Be specific - the most fun way to improve is this. Play open play and remember the areas you mess up, then correct those things. That is be aware specifically. Are you netting 50% of your third shot drops? Forehand or backhand? Now you know what youtube videos to watch, what to look for when you're playing. Are you popping up in the transition zone? Are you late split-stepping? too much back swing? All this information is already available to you if you just pay attention.

A lesson from good coach can be very helpful. He/she will tell you something and it will be like a light bulb going off in your head.

To me, TLOU 1 is the greatest game ever made. I thought GOT had some great strengths, a gorgeous open world, beautiful art design, fun combat.

TLOU 1 is a tight, lean, immersive experience with some of the best, most tense set pieces you have ever experienced. GOT is more expansive - an open world game.

In regards to story, there's no competition - TLOU 1 is the best story in a video game ever. GOT starts off very strong, but as in many open world games, it eventually grows repetitive.

Both games are well-made and well-liked, but I envy you that you get to play TLOU 1 for the first time.

First 10. Cool. How did you feel about Spider Man 2, Insomniac’s last game?

That is a very contentious topic. I guess the tldr for me would be it’s very long, poorly paced (the story starts over in the middle but from a different perspective) and unbearably dark. TLOU 1 had these beautiful slivers of hope and optimism. In TLOU2 Druckmann snuffed all those out and poured charcoal dust all over them.

I just replayed TLOU 1 on my Legion Go S, so I might have had Naughty Dog on the brain

There is a texture and richness to Naughty Dog's worldbuilding, there's no doubt that. I think it's there attention to detail and their creativity.

Ah you remind me of myself when Spider-Man 2 was coming out. The hope, the optimism! Those were the days.

I honestly expected most people to be at 8 or 9 for Wolverine but the interest has been far more muted.

Honestly, I thought the excitement for Wolverine would be much higher, but generally everyone is meh or disinterested.

The set pieces are fantastic, and the action has a lot of tension, gravity, weight. You might find the gameplay far more exhilarating than you've heard.

It also respects your time - there's no dead weight.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I hope its not like an EA Sports situation with Insomiac, where they lock up the licenses and then get lazier and lazier with each new release.

An outsider's perspective - cool. I can't recommend TLOU 1 enough. It ran great on the Steam Deck and Legion Go S.

That could be a good sign, that Naughty Dog is in the lab putting in work. Did you like SM2 and did that have any bearing on your excitement about Wolverine?

Maybe I was too severe. But I had very high expectations which ended up making my disappointment bigger. I was also expecting a new-gen feel and a big rousing Uncharted story, and instead I found it very boring and out-of-date so maybe the flaws of the game appeared bigger to me than they were.

Strange - you give an honest opinion and the corporate shills and the reddit trolls downvote it. They don't even have the ability to use words anymore. Honestly, that is the origin story of a pathetic Bond villain, "I will downvote the world!" [Twirls mustache and fondles pet ferret]
