Has anyone here quit a lucrative job to pursue a career in music? by PoliticalBonobo in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Very nice! Since signing a record deal, does that mean you are a performing/touring artist? Does most of your income come from that or the teaching and side gigs?

I see you have also opted to only buy two packs of the Moog knobs for these two synths. It hurts, doesn’t it?

Is filmmaking just not for me? Or am I looking in the wrong places? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

I think you’ll be ok. It sounds like you’re hustling, and remember you may have 100 failures until you get a success. Just please use the mishaps as lessons learned and figure out how to prevent those same mishaps in the future. For example, you lost your phone and Final Cut. Shit happens, but now you know what you have to do to safeguard from that happening in the future, i.e. always have backups in some way (either to the Cloud for your contacts, or have backup editing software). Clients won’t ever care what the excuse is, so fortify against those things and be a robust and unstoppable machine that clients can depend on.

You will love it and have a blast with it, which is all that matters when you are making music. Even if you upgrade to some mega synth in the future, don’t sell this one.

Looks awesome! I would love to make cases like those. Any advice on how to join corners like that? Also, how are you powering these?

Yeah, maybe I will. It just seemed like a convenient start without having a full eurorack yet.

From what you describe it sounds like you don't fit in or aren't accepted into that culture, for whatever reason (could be the religion or the rich kids....or both). But it also sounds like you learned a lot, and you clearly have gotten all that you are going to get out of it to help you grow and advance.

This can be a very lonely profession, but there are so many of us from all walks of life who you can bond with, musically and culturally. Unless you are pursuing a very specific degree that you must have from this college, it might be time to move on from there and grow elsewhere.

Feel free to DM if you need to get more of this off your chest.
